MacFilter: Looking for a program or shell script that will allow me to quickly and easily scan my computer (Mac) for duplicates of images and consolidate them so that aren't redundant copies taking up space everywhere.

How can I extract a list of "second-generation" citations from Google Scholar search results, preferably in such a way that this information is easily parsable into lists of authors, titles, journals, and year published?

Is there an easier way to participate in online Forums? Is there such a thing as BBS/Forum reader software? I'm looking for a kind of universal front-end for online Forums that will give me a unified interface for all the different web forums I participate in.

I'm running a PhPBB forum. Spammers have found it. Mysterious strangers selling vigorous blue pills popped up from nowhere.
Now I need to build something that will prevent spammers from polluting it. Is there a silver bullet that prevents all spammers from ever posting on PHPBB forums ? (I know, but I'm an eternal optimistic).
Any antispam mods that has been successfullyt tested someone would like to recommend ?
Thanks in adavance.

I need to mass download a chunk of a website. It's about 15000 pages, with identical urls except for one portion with a sequential numerical indicator for each page. I don't need to spider any links, I just need it to work through the list of pages. I know there's got to be an easy script-y way of doing this, but you know, I'm a lawyer. Please help!

Any MeFi perl/cgi programmers feel like writing a few lines of code?
I need to add a function to an existing script, which looks like a piece of cake if you know perl.
Given a $newstring and a file of records, each consisting of a count and a string delimited by a space:
201 this.thing
23 that.thing
14 someother.thing
...
I need a function to check whether $newstring already exists in the file. If so, increment the count. If not, add a new record to the file with a count of 1. Finally, sort the file in descending order by count.
Maybe 5 minutes for you. Learning perl first for me. If it would be easier with fixed length counts like 0000201, that is fine, too.
If this is inappropriate for Ask MeFi, my apologies. I'll take it over to answers.google.

This live preview hack seemed so beautiful and simple that I'm currently implementing it on a personal website. Any geekerHeads out there who can find any potential problems, or better yet, provide something more efficient?
