Sandkings in my screen

Looking for a game or screensaver-type program where little scenes or creatures or plants or -something- will change and evolve and interact with itself, without human input. Computer a desktop running Windows 7, has an Intel i3 processor, and a big pretty screen. I have Millienaire on my Minecraft world and I like watching the townspeople slowly build a settlement. When I had Civ on the computer, ages ago, I used to set it up with all computer players and then see how it would evolve, who would win, etc. I would like something like this, or with little animals that evolve and stuff, or plants slowly grow.... something I could look at for awhile, come back later and go "wow, look how much progress!"

something like the old "Life" game of the little dots, but, hopefully, a little more complex and pretty, to make better use of the technology we have now.

I don't want a "Virtual Pet" that I have to tend to, although if I could reach in from time to time and poke things that would be nice, but ideally it would just run itself without me, and random-ness would make a new experience each time.

Where can I get this screensaver?

Does anyone recognize the screensaver being used in this picture? Searching Google for "Mac clock screensaver" and variations thereof was unsurprisingly unhelpful.

Crowdsourced slideshow for OS X screensaver

I'm trying to set up father-in-law's iMac so that his screensaver displays a slideshow of pictures from a folder. How can I configure this so that his kids and grandkids can contribute pictures which automatically gets added to that folder and shown on the slideshow? FIL is a neophyte computer user, and hasn't quite mastered email yet, so relying on him to download JPEG attachments from his email is out. iMac runs latest 10.6 release.

Initially, I thought of setting up a Dropbox folder on his Mac, point the screensaver at it, and give all relatives Dropbox account access. But I'd also like to lessen complexity for the sender of pictures.

Is there any way I can have people email pictures to him and have the JPEG attachment automatically show up in the picture folder? I don't use Apple Mail but I think Smart Folders can be used to filter out email with a special subject line indicating incoming family pictures. But I don't know how attachments can be automatically downloaded from that smart folder.

Any suggestions or other methods?

Sometimes there are flying toasters...

Help me get rid of this stupid screensaver! I am running xubuntu on my old laptop and it has a password-protected screensaver installed (Xscreensaver 4.24) that drives me insane. It comes on even if I just half-way close the laptop to move it somewhere else in the house and sometimes it takes FOREVER to get back to the desktop. The laptop never leaves my house so I could care less about password-protection and besides this thing is just plain ugly. I know next to nothing about Linux, whenever I want something changed or fixed I just beg someone more knowledgeable among my geeky friends and family, but none of them are around at the moment (and one of them who had a look at this before gave up after about five minutes). So please help! (and as for my level of linux knowledge, I know how to open the terminal and shut down a program if it's hanging up. And that's it.)
