LCD Screen to Digital Photo Frame

After searching Google and the archives of AskMe, I've come across some great suggestions and ideas for making digital photo frames. From what I can determine, however, all of these require a computer of some kind built into the frame. Supposing one only has a laptop screen? Specifically, the screen from an old ThinkPad with a blown motherboard. Could I connect the monitor to my network somehow? Hook it up to some special circuit board designed for just this sort of thing?

Fix my cellphone's screen scratches?

Apparently the fabric in my pants pockets was enough to scuff and scratch the living hell out of the screen on my cellphone (a Nokia 6682). This implies to me that the plastic is very, very soft. Is it safe to try using Brasso on it to try to rub it clear again? If so, what kind of cloth would you recommend? Does anybody know any alternatives? It's the kind of scuffing that renders at least half of the screen fuzzy, and the phone's less than three months old, so this really needs to be fixed...

Help me find a PDA screen protector, please!

I need help locating a source for lightly textured (as opposed to glossy) PDA screen protectors or a similar material in bulk, but it seems like everything out there is glossy and clear! I don't use them on a PDA, but as replaceable surfaces on my laptop's touchpad so I'm open to trying something other than a screen protector. Any ideas? [more inside]

Which 19-21" monitor should I buy?

What LCD monitor should I buy? This thread 6 months ago recommends the Dell UltraSharp 1905FP, which is about $383 right now. Is that still the best bang for my monitor bucks? I'm not a gamer, do a little web work but nothing hugely critical, and look at my computer screen for most of the day. What do you recommend? [more inside]

How can I display more windows at once more easily?

I'm a self-admitted computer freak, and I primarily run Windows XP. On average, I have at least 5 windows open. I have a 20" flat panel, and I want to display multiple programs at once in a simple fashion. Is there software that can do this? Or should I, as I'm planning to do now, purchase another monitor?

Gray Screen Of Death?

Running WinXP, with Samsung 150s flat-panel monitor -- both about 2 1/2 years old -- never had any problem with either...but during the last week or so, after sitting idle for a short period of time (perhaps 10 minutes?), the monitor screen goes gray -- dark, charcoaly, gray. [more inside]

Mac Screen Readability

MacFilter: How do you make the screen fonts bigger in OS X? I've just upgraded my grandmother from a virus-infested WinME box to a 17" iMac G5. Unfortunately, the text is much too small for her to read clearly, and she wants her WinMe box back. I've changed the resolution down to 1024x768. Other than seriously degrading the image quality, it doesn't make the fonts much larger.

I'm comfortable working with the command line and editing plists, so don't hold anything back.

On my HP Pavilion mx703 that runs on Windows XP, the screen will get wavy black lines working their way up.

I have an HP Pavilion mx703 that runs on Windows XP. Lately, right in the middle of working on it, the screen will get these wavy black lines on it (can't really be more specific than that) that start at the bottom and work their way to the top. It's annoying as hell, and nothing gets rid of them except shutting down completely - rebooting doesn't help. A friend suggested "Degausse", but that doesn't work. I'm not as computer-savvy as other MeFites here - anyone know what to do? It's done it four or five times this evening alone, and I'm at my wits end. Please help!!

MS Word Color

ColorFilter
When I create a background color is MS Word, and then print it out, the yellow on the screen takes on a green cast, and after a bit of fiddling, I can't seem to compensate for this effect. Is this inevitable, or, is this a function of working on a 5 year-old iMac, whose screen is losing it's phosphors? Any suggestions on how to efficiently match the screen color to the paper color? (I've adjusted the screen options in the OS already)

Damaged antiglare coating on CRT monitor.

The screen of my 17" CRT developed a strange, highly-reflective, streaky sheen after sitting under my stairs for six months. (Photo, close-up photo.) I've tried several cleaning agents, but nothing takes it off. The only thing that happened in the interim is that somebody spilled a cup of hot coffee in the vicinity, which splashed the screen, but we cleaned it off pretty quickly and didn't notice any damage at the time. Could coffee etch glass? Or could something else have caused this? Is there anything I can do to clean the screen?
