Help me understand a screen resolution problem. I just got a brand new lenovo t60 laptop which came with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 graphics card. The resolution it came out of the box with is 1400X1050 which when I set it to 32bit color depth looks great. However, if I change the resolution to 1280X1024 which is my ideal one, it looks like utter shit! [more inside]

Help me take better screenshots on my plasma. I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01, and probably my settings are bad. Screenshots are either too noisy (at high ISO ratings) or blurry (100 ISO). Exposure is often whack. I see great screenshots online, taken on big LCD or plasma. How do they do that? Thanks!
Is there a Mac application out there that will take a screen shot of a web page graphic that changes frequently? Something that will run in the background (grabbing then adding to a folder) once I set the URL?

Why does my computer keep doing this? Moving around an open window does this. The purple lines usually pop out of nowhere, independent of what I'm doing. It started this week and has been happening more often as time goes on. Restarting the computer seems to be the only cure.

Just recently my friend dropped his beloved 17" Powerbook G4, while the end result was pretty bad, as in the screen was completely smashed, the rest of the unit is still in good condition. Luckily I have been able to find a replacement screen at a pretty good price, and I am looking to replace/attach it myself. The only trouble is I don't know how hard this will really be. Which is why I am seeking your experience and advice. [more inside]

My mother has an Acer LCD (model AL1715) hooked up to her Mac Mini. The warranty expired 3 days ago, and last night it woke up after being asleep for about 45 minutes with a black line across it - the image divided in such a way that the image has rolled - that is, the bottom is at the top and the top at the bottom, split not quite equal halves. Disconnecting and reconnecting don't work, powering off and back on don't work, changing the display mode on the mac doesn't work, and we can't find a reset button. Acer doesn't answer tech support phone calls (endless holds) or emails. Any ideas?
I have a 1024x768 resolution. When I run programs which are native to 800x600, instead of stretching to fit the whole screen, they show in 1024x768, but in a small box in the middle of my screen with a huge black border. The same thing happens when I manually change my resolution to 800x600 - resolution stays the same, but the viewable area shrinks, leaving a small rectangle in the middle and a large blank space around it. How can I fix this? [more inside]

I've been an AOL customer for too many years now, and I want to cancel my account. Is there a way for me to do this but KEEP MY SCREEN NAME SO I CAN USE IT ON AIM?
After searching Google and the archives of AskMe, I've come across some great suggestions and ideas for making digital photo frames. From what I can determine, however, all of these require a computer of some kind built into the frame. Supposing one only has a laptop screen? Specifically, the screen from an old ThinkPad with a blown motherboard. Could I connect the monitor to my network somehow? Hook it up to some special circuit board designed for just this sort of thing?
Apparently the fabric in my pants pockets was enough to scuff and scratch the living hell out of the screen on my cellphone (a Nokia 6682). This implies to me that the plastic is very, very soft. Is it safe to try using Brasso on it to try to rub it clear again? If so, what kind of cloth would you recommend? Does anybody know any alternatives? It's the kind of scuffing that renders at least half of the screen fuzzy, and the phone's less than three months old, so this really needs to be fixed...

I need help locating a source for lightly textured (as opposed to glossy) PDA screen protectors or a similar material in bulk, but it seems like everything out there is glossy and clear! I don't use them on a PDA, but as replaceable surfaces on my laptop's touchpad so I'm open to trying something other than a screen protector. Any ideas? [more inside]
What LCD monitor should I buy? This thread 6 months ago recommends the Dell UltraSharp 1905FP, which is about $383 right now. Is that still the best bang for my monitor bucks? I'm not a gamer, do a little web work but nothing hugely critical, and look at my computer screen for most of the day. What do you recommend? [more inside]

I'm a self-admitted computer freak, and I primarily run Windows XP. On average, I have at least 5 windows open.
