We haven't had a proper TV in over a decade. I would like to have something other than my laptop to watch streaming media, DVDs, Netflix, etc. Can you explain how this works in 2013? I imagine we'd buy something like this
Samsung LED HDTV and some kind of speakers. Then what? Do we plug it into a laptop? What exactly is Apple TV and how does it stack up against Roku? This seems like it should be a simple question, but I feel like a caveman emerging from the dark, and am fairly bewildered at all of the options and variations out there.

About a month ago, I spilled some water on my laptop. So I let everything dry out. It works again, but now the screen is very bright, as if the contrast is turned way up. After searching the internet, I learned that the problem could be a damaged inverter so I ordered and installed a new one. But no dice. The screen is still really bright. Any ideas of what might be the problem?

I accidentally got some soda fall on the LCD screen of my Compaq CQ56 laptop, and seconds later, a
smudge appeared on the lower right side of the screen (everything on that area appears lighter when it is on). It looks like the liquid got inside the screen, and I don't know what to do about it. Can anyone help?

Today my laptop's backlight stopped working. The screen is visible, but very dim. I can't repair it immediately (if it's even worth it). Does anyone have any tips for lighting the screen to make it more visible? Shining a penlight didn't seem to help much, because the screen is so reflective.

Digital Photo Frame (DPF) with wireless and wide viewing angle? I had my heart set on a
Sungale 15” DPF with wifi, but when I viewed one in-store, the screen was far more sensitive to viewer head position than the norm (both height and sideways angle), which is terrible for a DPF. Is there anything similar which uses a non-sucky screen, and how can I know, given that I can’t view it personally before buying?

What is it? Is it possible to repair? Or where on Gods green earth can I get a replacement? Slowly increasing white strip with sporadic coloured lines throughout on my notebook screen. Funnily enough it is more frustrating to look for the answer than it is to just try to ignore it.

My mother has an Acer LCD (model AL1715) hooked up to her Mac Mini. The warranty expired 3 days ago, and last night it woke up after being asleep for about 45 minutes with a black line across it - the image divided in such a way that the image has rolled - that is, the bottom is at the top and the top at the bottom, split not quite equal halves. Disconnecting and reconnecting don't work, powering off and back on don't work, changing the display mode on the mac doesn't work, and we can't find a reset button. Acer doesn't answer tech support phone calls (endless holds) or emails. Any ideas?

After searching Google and the archives of AskMe, I've come across some great suggestions and ideas for making
digital photo frames. From what I can determine, however, all of these require a
computer of some kind built into the frame. Supposing one only has a laptop screen? Specifically, the screen from an old ThinkPad with a
blown motherboard. Could I connect the monitor to my network somehow? Hook it up to some special circuit board designed for just this sort of thing?

What LCD monitor should I buy?
This thread 6 months ago recommends the Dell UltraSharp 1905FP, which is
about $383 right now. Is that still the best bang for my monitor bucks? I'm not a gamer, do a little web work but nothing hugely critical, and look at my computer screen for most of the day. What do you recommend?

ColorFilter
When I create a background color is MS Word, and then print it out, the yellow on the screen takes on a green cast, and after a bit of fiddling, I can't seem to compensate for this effect. Is this inevitable, or, is this a function of working on a 5 year-old iMac, whose screen is losing it's phosphors? Any suggestions on how to efficiently match the screen color to the paper color? (I've adjusted the screen options in the OS already)
