The Stand has been a long-running comedy club and Edinburgh Fringe Festival venue, first in Edinburgh, Scotland, and with later-opened branches in Glasgow and Newcastle upon Tyne. I noticed that there is now a New York City-based comedy club and restaurant called The Stand NYC. I didn't see any indication on the websites of either club that there was a connection. Is this an example of the use of a trade name in another national jurisdiction?
My almost-husband and I are leaving for our Scottish honeymoon in less than a week. Hooray! I think I've finally nailed down most of the details—after many, many hours of scouring the Interwebs—but I do have some things I'm hoping that the Mefites over the pond or seasoned UK travelers can help me with. Mostly transit-based questions within (warning: I'm one of those people who absolutely must plan these kinds of ridiculous details in advance, to prevent myself from stressing out and becoming a complete nutjob), but also a few less-important (but more fun) bonus questions, just because. A friend is planning to spend six months in Glasgow and has questions about day-to-day matters: housing; music; dancing; groceries; school; and other matters. I've already sent her previous Glasgow-related questions, and I'll happily forward your more current recommendations. [more inside]
I just spontaneously booked a five day trip to Glasgow, which leaves in about 9 hours. I have never been to the UK, don't know anything about Glasgow and don't know much about Scotland. Tips for a 27-year-old American/Bulgarian (but a Swedish resident) woman traveling alone? [more inside]
Scotland vacation: I have 4 days to kill between work events in London and Glasgow, and I'm considering walking part of the West Highland Way by myself. Is this a reasonable plan, or do you have a better suggestion of how to use this time (ie other long distance walks or other plans entirely)? [more inside]

I don't know anything about cellular providers in the UK, which is where I will be living for nine months starting this September. I need a phone in the UK, but I will also need one when I return to the US after nine months. I have a verizon cell phone right now, but I my two year agreement with them has expired, so I can cancel without being charged a termination fee. What are my best/least expensive options? A friend and I have free tickets to Glasgow from around March 18-27. We may have a free place to stay in Edinburgh. Which city is more fun? Any insider tips for travelers or fun places to go that we won’t find in guide books? (more inside) [more inside]
I'm hoping to spend a few days in Glasgow in September but I'm hitting a wall in finding a hotel because of the cost hike due to the single supplement which in some cases is more than the actual cost of the room. Any singletons out there been to the city and stayed in a reasonably priced hotel?
