Okay, friends. It has been nearly an entire year since I discovered the Manhunter soundtrack, and the shine has still not worn off. It is so great. Seriously, go listen to it. I want more movie (or tv, I suppose!) scores/soundtracks like this. Please. [more inside]
I'll be paying off my student loans in the next year or so. When that's over, I'll be completely debt-free. I don't really want a credit card, and I'm not planning any big, credit-required purchases for the foreseeable future. I don't want to rule anything out though, and am interested in maintaining my hard-earned good credit score. So what should I do now? [more inside]

I have a family member who is in the hospital at the moment. I've noticed that outside the room doors there is a yellow form that gives the patient's score. Most of them say 45 or greater, but some say 23-45. Anyone have an idea what this means? I've been googling but haven't come up with anything.
Given a word, is there anyone who has come up with a metric for type-ability? Like "feed" is easier to type than "quit"? Is there some term I should be googling?

I have a bunch of scores for sites that are the sum of the individual scores of the samples that they contain. The number of samples in each site varies from 1 to several hundred. I would like to adjust the overall site scores to adjust for the variance in samples, so that a site with 200 samples doesn't overwhelm a site that has 10 where the site may be just as significant. However, I'm at a complete loss as how to accomplish this. Any thoughts?

Math Help! We're doing a big inventory project in my library this summer and we want to attach weekly prizes to it to help motivate the poor students who have to do all the scanning. Trick is, students do not work the same amount of hours per week, so we would like some way of weighting each student's output so that those that work less feel like they can compete with those who work more while not disadvantaging those with longer hours by requiring them to go insane in order to keep up. How to keep things fair and sane? [more inside]

My wife and I, proud parents of a new baby, need a new house, asap. I had, as recently as last month, significant credit card debt related to setting up my solo law practice and funding a couple of contingency fee cases. The previous debts would have messed up the debt/income ratios required for a mortgage. I've managed to zero out the debt through a settlement I've recently closed. Question is this: will the previous balances show up on the credit report viewed by the lender? (For example, March 2010 -- 30,000, April 2010, 30,000, May 2010, 0). Or will the report just show the high balance and credit limit without reference to when the balance was paid? Should I be prepared to document the basis for the quick payoff of the debt? My credit score is good, 750ish, and my wife's is better, 800+.

Several months ago, one of my banks informed me that they would be closing my credit card account due to longterm inactivity. Because the card I had with them was my very first and therefore oldest line of credit, closing the account dropped my 778 credit score by nearly 25 points (according to Credit Karma). I know my score is still respectable, but I'm determined to restore it anyhow. Thus far, however, I've been unable to find any information that would be useful to a person such as myself, who has always been fiscally responsible. If I've never been late with a payment, never maxed out my cards, always pay off my balances in full, and don't have any other loans or debts to my name, what can I do to improve my score?
DH has opened multiple credit cards with me as an authorized user. We just paid them down to a $0 balance and I want to know how many we can close without hurting our credit. My guess is closing the c/c will impact his credit score and not mine.
