Please help me avoid further injuring myself

YANMD - but my doctor thinks I may have a slipped disc. If you are active, into fitness, running, strength training, etc, how do you manage the associated aches and pains and avoid aggravating things? What can I do now to (hopefully) nip this in the bud, but still enjoy exercise? [more inside]

Sciatic nerve pain: Any advice?

YANMD; I am seeing my doctor about this, but I'd be grateful for any wisdom from the hivemind. For a long time, I've been fairly physically active without suffering any significant problems or injuries. I'm 38 and have been going to the gym about 3 times a week since my 20s, and I go hillwalking regularly. In January of this year, I started to experience pain and stiffness in my lower back. I went to my doctor, who referred me to a physiotherapist. After a couple of sessions with the physio, the stiffness went and I got a good range of movement back, but I started to experience much sharper pain in my right thigh, of the classic sciatic nerve variety. Fix my back in Austin

I was diagnosed with bulging L4/L5 discs with spondylolysis and stenosis. Doctor convinced me to get epidural / facet injections. After the shots, I started getting very bad sciatica ( I think its sciatica ). I could hardly stand in the shower. Before the shots I was running half marathons. Now I can't run at all. I can't lift heavy things. Only walking makes it feel better. Its been six months with no improvement. The quality of my life is way worse than it was before. What happened post injection? Can anyone recommend a good back doctor / orthopedist in Austin?

Sciatica and surgery.

Lose Weight, Gain Hurt?

I used to get sciatica as a result of a lower back problem. It mostly went away, perversely as I put on some weight. Now, I am losing the weight to deal with the lower back pain itself, and the sciatica is coming back as the weight comes off. Coincidence, or to be expected? It seems kind of backwards to me.

Herniated disc + pregnancy = ?

Back trouble and pregnancy: Which is worse for a person with a herniated disc, a C-section (which I imagine will compromise the all-important core muscles) or vaginal delivery (which might cause the disk to rupture)? Also, I am prone to sciatica and assume that pregnancy will involve a lot of sciatic nerve pain--can this lead to a permanent worsening of my condition or would it be relieved once I gave birth? Has anyone here ever had sciatica?

Has anyone here ever had (or have) sciatica? I've been going to physio for it, since May, but the healing process is quite slow, I just started going back to the gym doing low intensity cardio. For those who have had sciatica, how long did it take to heal, and is it a lifelong thing you now have to worry about?
