Dear Interlocutors from Ask MetaFilter,
Please help me understand if the sequence of the steps I figure out to transfer my son Edoardo from a private school in New York State to the New York City public school system is correct. Unfortunately the staff of the High School Enrollment Office is very laconic.
1) I have Edoardo's current school complete the "Out of City Request Form"
2) I fax the HS Enrollment Office 2 documents as a proof we are residents in New York City
3) I enter my high school choices in priority order on my "Round 2 and New Schools Choice Form". My question is: where may I find this form?
4) I return the completed and signed "Round 2 and New Schools Choice Form" to my guidance counselor. Here my question is: who is my guidance counselor?
Best,

To what extent do American Highschools resemble the stereotypical American Highschool seen in just about every movie and TV show ever, withever present competition for social status, rigidly defined cliques, omnipresent bullying, etc... etc?

The McTootsalot family has outgrown our home, and we’re looking to move this summer. We love our area (Durham, NC) so if we could we’d love to just move into a larger house down the street that could accommodate our growing clan. However, there is a caveat: schools. How much importance we should place on schools?

I have a Masters and certification in Early Childhood. Now I'd like to work as a special educator. Seems the only way to get there is another Masters in Special Ed. I'd like to find a way to do this cheaply and quickly. I have looked into Teaching Fellows and similar programs, and all specifically require that applicants have no background in teaching. What can I do?

I've been doing some talking and thinking about WiFi in my community, and someone recently brought up the issue of wifi in schools. Apparently, parents want wifi to be banned in schools because after the introduction of wireless networks, their children are showing strange symptoms.
Does anyone know of any evidence or studies done on this?

How would I go about finding pre-K programs, elementary, middle or high schools in Brooklyn that teach Russian as part of their daily routine? Looking for public or private, as well as after-school or weekend programs. Interested in programs for both heritage speakers and non-heritage speakers. Also, I know of only one such place so far - Bambi Academy - and am interested in what it is like or if there are similar schools. Ultimate goal is for my future kids to be fully bilingual. I'd be willing to move around the NYC / Long Island area, as well, if there are exceptional schools there that could help make this happen. Also interested in finding education-oriented blogs or forums for NYC, if that might help answer this question.

This is a stupid question, but can someone please explain to me the difference between an I.S. school and a J.H.S. school in the New York public school system? It seems both schools cater to grades 6, 7 and 8 so I'm curious about the difference in naming and the history of this system of abbreviation.
Also, what does I.S. stand for?
