I'm an older student transferring from community college to a four-year to study ethno/musicology. I've been admitted, and now it's time to make the final decision. Do I go for a pretty attractive program at a good school (UCSB), or for a potentially less attractive program at one of the top schools in the country (Berkeley)? [more inside]

For all you current and former medical school students out there: what one song defined your experience in medical school - especially year one. I'm looking for resources for a home school music appreciation curriculum. I'd like to start at 'the beginning' (what is music, what are its origins) and work my way up to present day music. The age range is 7-9 years old. I would prefer not to buy a package, but if there is one that is particularly good, I'm not totally against the idea.

ObscureNewsResearchFilter: Does anyone remember a fairly recent news story regarding a performing arts academy (possibly a music school, specifically) being destroyed by a fire? I want to go even further and say that it happened in Salzburg, Austria, but I may have hallucinated that particular detail. I've googled to no avail.
