Help me make more money as a retired substitute teacher! (Cleveland)

I am a recently retired elementary school teacher living in a suburb of Cleveland. I have again caught the teaching bug and am doing substitute teaching at schools near my home almost every weekday using a program my son found for me online (aesop Jobulator). I love the work, but the pay is just $80-85/day: Decent, but not what I want to be making with my experience and degrees. I would like to make a bit - or a lot! - more so I can save up some money, travel to Japan and visit my son next year. [more inside]

A good job for my wife to supplement my income

A good job for my wife to supplement my income? Actually she is not my wife yet but soon when we move in together she will want to take some sort of job. Mainly this is for the money, but also we will be living somewhere different so for her it will be a way of meeting new people and hopefully making some new friends. [more inside]

Help with finances during intensive college program

I've been accepted to the program of my dreams, but I'm not allowed to hold a job while in attendance, and my EFC is higher than my family can afford, so my school-determined need is too low for me to even support myself with loans. Are there any options I'm missing? [more inside]

Deciding to transition away from the legal profession-- too soon?

I'm a law student in Ontario, just about done 2 years out of 3. I absolutely hate the academic aspect of it, and I'm pretty miserable. I didn't particularly enjoy the practice experiences I've had either, at 3 different legal-aid type clinics working as a student in family law, criminal law, and landlord/tenant matters. I have invested a lot of money into pursuing this law degree. Should I be giving serious thought to finding something else to do with my life as soon as I graduate, or should I stick it out and work my hardest to try to get a paying job in the legal profession, in the hopes that I will be able to pay off my student loan debt? Why would a school turn a prospective student away?!

California Filter: I'm a recent graduate of a Master's level counseling program and cannot find work that will enable me to fulfill state requirements for licensure. I'm considering enrolling in an Associate's degree program in a closely related field with better job prospects. I'd be relying on federal financial aid to complete this degree, which is specifically an Associate's in Science. The problem is that the financial aid office claims that I cannot obtain federal student aid because I already hold a Bachelor's. Apparently, at this school there's a cap on federal aid - they don't offer it once students graduate with a BA or BS. I called Direct Loans to confirm this, and they said they'd never heard of this. The financial aid office suggested that I use private loans, but that's not an option for me. At all. So.... I'm turning to the hive mind. Any info is greatly appreciated!! Has anyone had this problem? Figured out any workarounds?

Mass transit.

I'm spending nearly $400/month on automotive-related expenses for a car I don't enjoy driving. That's about 25% of my monthly income, and when it really comes down to it, I think I'd rather be saving that money for something better, like travel. Or education. Or Scotch. Lots and lots of Scotch. [more inside]

How can I afford to stay in college?

I'm a full-time college sophomore. I'm working full time, 35 hours a week, to try and make ends meet but I'm having a hard time. I know there was another thread on loans earlier, but my situation is different.

The disbursement I get from the federal student loan programs is not enough to cover my tuition itself, and the extra cost of room, board, books and other necessities is eating in and I'm beginning to run up serious credit card debt. My parents make enough money to keep me from getting grants or financial need scholarships, but they will not help me with school, nor will they co-sign a 3rd party loan. I live in a very cheap apartment and take the bus to school, and I've cut food and entertainment expenses to the minimums. I talked to the financial aid office and they said that there was nothing they could do except offer me a position on campus (for less hours and the same money as my current job) or give me a list of 3rd party loan providers. I called the providers, but they all rejected me because I'm too young (21), single and don't have a cosigner.

What do I do? I feel like I'm being punished for trying to go to school.
