I need some help with student loans. I took loans out in 2008 and 2009. Two subsidized and two unsubsidized. Now I'm on half-time school deferment and I'd like to take advantage of this!

Student loan hacks? Going to grad school (MBA) this fall most likely, and will be taking out loans for tuition and some living expenses. Any pro-tips or tricks of the trade for doing this most effectively? Also anything I should be aware of so that I don't screw myself over in the future?

Undergrad student who wants to transfer from Baruch to Sarah Lawrence here. This morning, I learned that my application for a $10,000 loan from NYHelps (a loan program from the state) was turned down. I need that money to attend Sarah Lawrence. Should I suck it up and take a private loan from Chase (variable interest rate starting at 8.75%) or return to Baruch College, where I would pay nothing?

I may have an opportunity to take out an educational loan that I don't need. It is a federal 6.55% unsubsidized loan. Would it be worth it to take the loan out to start a Roth IRA?

Student Loan question: I've started paying off my delinquent perkins loans to a collection agency and discovered they're adding a 40% collection fee to my total. If I stop paying them, my school will seek a judgement, but will it be sans the outrageous 40% fee?

It's the time to consolidate my school loans, or so I hear. My question is have any of you had good/bad experiences with loan consolidation companies? Are there any I should stay away from? With school interest rates at a low, will my payments be the same regardless of whom I consolidate with? I'm looking for pretty much any experience fellow MeFites have with loan consolidation so I don't mess this up.
