I am a high school science teacher. Next summer, I am leaving my current school so my family can move back to my childhood home town. I was planning to inform my current school's administration in January-ish, but it's getting harder to avoid telling them without lying, or causing them to waste resources, which I'd rather not do. On Monday, I'm in on a meeting specifically about plans for next year that will probably involve me and require my input. Help! What should I do and when should I do it? [more inside]
I'm looking for regular middle schools or high schools in eastern Massachusetts (i.e., the kinds with bricks-and-mortar buildings and classrooms with teachers and students there in person) but that also offer some courses completely digitally. E.g., students might go online to take an AP class or a foreign language not otherwise offered by the school. They might do so from home or from a computer lab at school or similar. [more inside]

I'm trying to find out if there are summer programs for kids (~13-15) who want to get involved in technical theater or backstage work in NYC. There seem to be a lot of paid summer acting classes, but I'm not sure where to find or look for backstage volunteer work for young people. If anyone has specific programs or places to start looking, I'd appreciate it.
I'm a senior in high school, and I'm thinking about taking a gap year. I have half-decent web development skills. My plan is to go to some other city, get a job or internship as a web developer, and live by myself for a year. Maybe spend a few months traveling elsewhere around the country/world. Is this a good idea? [more inside]
Brother suspended for three days from his high school in California, due to 1. "racist comments"- from an off colour joke and 2. refusing to tell an officer his name. Is the disciplinary action taken equivalent to his behavior? How can we go about appealing it,if so? More details inside. [more inside]
To what extent do American Highschools resemble the stereotypical American Highschool seen in just about every movie and TV show ever, withever present competition for social status, rigidly defined cliques, omnipresent bullying, etc... etc?
Can anyone help find a cite for a study? I think I heard about it on the radio at some point. It was a study that recorded classrooms - I think high school - and then talked about how much classroom time was spent on girls' discussion and questions and how much on boys. It also surveyed student/teacher perceptions of the time spent, and had a follow-up component where teachers tried to even out the time. Thanks in advance!

I've taken a one year leave from a grad school program in physics. I was very unhappy in grad school, and I'm now leaning towards not going back. My next best idea is to become a high-school teacher in physics and/or math in the Boston area. Am I crazy? How do I do this? [more inside]

Was it worth it to go to your (5, 10, 20) year high school reunion? All I'm really curious about is who got those cheerleaders pregnant, but if they didn't tell us then they probably won't now.
