I wanted to "Sparkle, Neely, Sparkle!" not take a nap!

So this isn't a panicked "what am I going to do. I'm POISONED" kind of thing. I know it's not that serious! I was just an idiot. I didn't have my contacts in yet, thought I took my 20mg of adderall so I could get started on my homework for today. Instead, of course I took my 1mg of Xanax. Not too worried about it but I take Xanax to put me to sleep. I have a ton of homework I'm supposed to get done today. I took some activated charcoal thinking that would help. Definitely feel the Xanax kicking in now, though. Can I take an adderall in an hour? I've got work to do! I can't be chilled out right now.

When and how to tell my school that I'm leaving?

I am a high school science teacher. Next summer, I am leaving my current school so my family can move back to my childhood home town. I was planning to inform my current school's administration in January-ish, but it's getting harder to avoid telling them without lying, or causing them to waste resources, which I'd rather not do. On Monday, I'm in on a meeting specifically about plans for next year that will probably involve me and require my input. Help! What should I do and when should I do it? [more inside]

I didn't fail my PhD defense, but I didn't pass. Should I quit?

I got a "reconsideration" on my PhD defense, which is essentially "you have to do major revisions to the dissertation." This is pretty much unheard of. I don't know a single person this has happened to. My adviser had NO CLUE this was going to happen, and we both thought I was going to pass easily. More below. [more inside]

Updated version of School Days Record Book

As a kid I was given a copy of the School Days Record Book illustrated by Helen Cann, a type of journal where you can record memories of your schooling years from pre-school to end of high school. This version's out of print/only available used; I'm looking for recommendations for a similar school-oriented journal that's more current. (Bonus points if compatible with the UK education system)

Awesome Grad School vs Mental Health

I've started a Master's degree at a top university in the world (for my field) in Europe. It is an incredible opportunity that is very unlikely to come around again. However, I suffer from depression and being away from my support system while in a rigorous academic program does not seem to be the best for my mental health. My friends and family say they support me no matter what, but they all tell me that if I leave this program I will regret it for the rest of my life, and I'm afraid of living with regret. What would you do in my situation (regarding career and life decisions)?

It seems for years I have been unhappy because I have a lot of drive to do something with my life, but for the love of God I just can't settle into a direction. I am currently in university taking a pre-masters to go into urban planning but I just feel like I don't really know what I'm doing or if I will like it. I am curious if others have been in a similiar situation before and if so how did they find their way? Also if you could read my extended explanation and tell me what you would do in my situation or offer any advice I would love to hear it. [more inside]

Bringing the Power of STEAM to the Classroom

I recently developed a new invention that combines art, music and technology together in a pretty cool, very interactive way. I've received several requests from teachers in my state asking me to bring this project to their schools and asking what my fee would be. A test question from my childhood about eyelashes still confuses me

The test was to determine whether I should be placed into a program for gifted students. I was five or six years old. One of the tasks was to identify the difference between a series of side-by-side photographs. For example, the picture on the left might be a tree with a rope swing, the picture on the right might be a tree with a tire swing. One of these side-by-sides was not like the others, and I can't figure out why it would be helpful in determining a child's aptitude. [more inside]
