Canadian National Parks

This is for our Canuck MeFites (or those with knowledge or experience). Please tell me about the Canadian National Park System. For the past 25 years I have spent a great deal of my leisure time exploring the U.S. National Parks. I am interested in doing the same north of the border. I especially love hiking in the mountains, so I'm looking for national park recommendations in the Purcell Mountains or Canadian Rockies. If you have familiarity with specific trails or off-road exploring that would be great.

But I don't want to exclude the easterners. What would you recommend on your side of the country? My previous Canadian experiences have been limited to Montreal and Toronto. I'd like to get out of the cities and into the wild. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Appalachian Beauty

In a couple weeks, I am going to Great Smoky Mountains National Park to spend a few days. For those of you with experience there, please recommend the best features of the park. In particular I am looking for what you would consider the best hiking trails, both for forest walks and scenic vistas. The NPS says there are more than 800 miles of trails. Obviously I can't do them all in a few days. I'm in pretty good shape, so elevation change is not an issue. Please share your best experiences in Great Smoky Mountains. Thank you.

Must See Mt Gambier and Adelaide - what shouldn't I miss?

SouthAustraliaFilter: I live in Melbourne and am driving to Adelaide over the Easter weekend via the Great Ocean Rd and stopping in Mt Gambier for one night. I know about the Blue Lake in Mt Gambier - what other essential things should I do/see in the area? I will also be in Adelaide for three/four days. I haven't been there since I was a kid, so I will be happy just to explore a city I don't really know anything about - except that it has a lot of churches and pubs.

What are the essential things I should do/see in Adelaide and surrounds?

What places should I stop at on the way between Mt Gambier and Adelaide?

What's the prettiest, most colourful spot in Toronto?

Suggest colourful, scenic locations in Toronto for a short film shoot? Particularly seeking offbeat locations with saturated, rich colours, maybe colourful buildings, graffiti or murals. I have an idea for a short film. It's mostly character- and dialogue-driven, so it could be set in any location, which means I might as well pick somewhere gorgeous. I'd like it to be an interesting location with natural lighting, in or very near to downtown Toronto. Either interiors or exteriors are fine, and I expect to shoot in late spring or early summer. I would love to do for Toronto what Amelie did for Montmartre. Bonus points if it's a location you know for sure I can get a permit or a hookup for!

I'm seeking a fun, playful, colourful, cheerful feel, maybe a location with levels for the characters to climb on, or stuff they can interact with. I'm not so much looking for locations like Kensington Market, where the colourful stuff is contained in bins amidst a grey streetscape-- I'd prefer if the actual environment was bright and pretty, with big colourful things that occupy vertical space, like murals, graffiti, or playground structures, and potential for interesting, cheeky cinematography. Bright, saturated, cheerful colours- apple green, orange, yellow, sky blue, red.

The characters are a mid-20s couple on a fun date early in the relationship. Some themes in the story include young love, optimism, death, Judaism, urban infiltration (ie, sneaking into forbidden places), young urban arty ennui, irony, and springtime.

Seattle to Phoenix sans California

Please provide me with ideas for a road trip from Seattle to Phoenix that does not go through California. In approximately one month (actually exactly a month, looking at today's date) I will be moving, by myself, from Seattle back to Phoenix. On the way up, I saw a lot of the fun California stuff (Pacific Coast Highway, San Francisco, Redwoods, etc.), and would now like to see more of this humongous, beautiful country. The trip needs to be fairly short, so I'm not trying to get an in-depth look at anything, rather more of an overview of what the scenery looks like in a part of the country I've never been through.

I feel like I've seen a lot of California, so I'd like to know what else I could see on a relatively expeditious roadtrip (~1500 miles or 3-4 days).

Suggest nocturnal Boston walks.

What are your favorite places to walk in Boston after dark? I'm looking for areas of Boston/Cambridge/Somerville (etc etc) that are particularly scenic or starkly beautiful after dark. I'm thinking the Christian Science Center, the top of Summit Ave. in Brookline, the view from the Harvard Bridge. Suggestions should be:

- accessible at all hours (i.e., not the view from the Top of the Hub); and
- T-accessible or a reasonable walk (no "take the Commuter Rail six stops and walk ten miles East," please!)

I know the area well enough to know which places are safe and aren't safe, but I'm looking for a new perspective on someplace I've lived for many years, and wondering what I might be overlooking.
