Why is my 10-year-old C-section scar aching now?

For the last few months (and no: I am absolutely not pregnant) one side of my ancient C-section scar has hurt when I sneezed or moved too suddenly. Sort of a sharp twinge. Occasionally the whole scar will hurt and I am afraid to stretch out or twist too abruptly for fear of hurting or possibly tearing something . You are not my doctor! I will go to a doctor! But before I do, I wouldn't mind hearing from anyone who's experienced this. Special snowflake information follows. [more inside]

Skip the cloves, please.

I recently heard that there are new procedures to break up scar tissue that are akin to scoring the surface of a ham, i.e. cross-hatched for max flexibility. I've had an immovable band of scar tissue around my elbow for 15 years that prevents my arm from extending fully, and I'd like to look into this procedure. My google-fu is weak (no, I DON'T need another search result for the Chili Peppers song) -- do you know what it's being called by doctors? Thank you!

Hyperpigmentation came back - help me get rid of it once and for all

I got a pimple about 1.5 years back, which I wasn't used to getting, and since it was smack dab in the middle of my face, I kept picking and prodding at it until a combination of chemicals and heat turned it into a burn. That burn left a small brown scar on my face I tried fading creams, exfoliating and 25% mandelic acid and it didn't work. Finally I tried 18% TCA peel. I did the peel twice and the brown scar was 100% gone. I should note that while healing I would spray it with 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide, then coat it with this anti bacterial cream and then cover with this other prescription cream i had used when removing DPN from a past procedure which left my face without any scars. How to prevent a scar forming from an injury?

About two weeks ago I unfortunately had a minor injury, which scabbed up. The scab fell off somewhere between several days and a week ago, and the area is now pinkish and slightly raised. The pink color has been going down somewhat over the past few days, but is still there. I have been putting a silicon-based product on it, as well as keeping it out of the sun. Is there anything else I can/should be doing to prevent scarring?

How to fix large patches of scar tissue?

I have large patches of raised scars and broken blood vessels across huge areas of my body. (I'm an adult in my twenties.) None of this was ever self-inflicted, nor desired in any way at any time. Can any of this be fixed medically/surgically if I save up the money? What about the purple/red marks crisscrossing my flesh? I know that laser surgery is possible for single scars, and to remove tattoos, but as for improving skin quality, I have no idea. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Help me understand what scar tissue on my muscle is exactly? IKYANMD

I am a runner, and soccer player. I have had 3 surgeries over the past 2 years to try to repair my right hamstring muscle from chronic tendionosis, hamstring syndrome, and I had a tenotomy. Now according to my MRI:"At around mid part there is a scar tissue formation of approximately 3 to 4 cm in the biceps femoris muscle which ís the lateral side of the hamstrings. Both above and below the scar the muscle looks perfectly normal." I currently have pain in any jogging, or specific use of my right hamstring muscle. I did rehab for 6 months post surgery in USA, but now I had to come to a small town in China, where there is no rehab. Is scar tissue capable of being my main culprit for me have pain during jogging? How easily is scar tissue removed through foam rolling, deep massage, Active Release Therapy? Is 3 to 4 cm a lot of scar tissue? How long will it take me to remove that much? (ballpark). How can I educate myself on what is going on with my body? Thanks

Just had my allergy breakout (Hives) and my face looks like a map

I have never had an allergic reaction before so I don't know what to do. I just had hives that lasted for 2 weeks. I went to the doctor and they gave me some shots and it was gone in a day, but it came back the second week - I kept taking my meds so the hives are mostly gone now. Some spots were still kind of itchy but its mostly just dark marks on my face. I was wondering if anybody knows how to remove these dark spots on my face because I really feel uncomfortable looking at the mirror and seeing myself like I'm looking at a moon. [more inside]

Cover or reduce an old scar

I've been looking for a way to help my girlfriend cover, or at least reduce the visibility of, a scar on her stomach. She is quite self-conscious about it, especially when we make love. I've searched up and read many discussions of similar topics here on AskMeFi, but most of the suggestions seem to assume that the scar is recent. My girlfriend's scar dates from 2002. We know that surgery will eventually be necessary, but for various reasons it isn't practical at this time. What techniques have MeFites found successful when trying to cover or eradicate older scars?

What's up with my knobbly-feeling surgical wound?

12 days ago I had pelvic surgery which involved a 9 cm (~3.5 inch) horizontal lower abdominal incision. The stitches were removed 6 days after the operation and the surgeon said at the time that the wound looked fine. Since some time after that appointment, when I touch the area within 1 cm of the wound I can feel fairly firm nodular areas under the skin. To anyone who has had a similar experience following surgery or knows about it, is this normal or a complication? Did it go away without treatment? Did it cause further problems? [more inside]
