Where are the best places to see Christmas lights in the San Francisco Bay Area? Consistently-extravagant neighborhoods are best, but dedicated displays are okay too. They can be free or pay-to-enter. Bonus points for not being too far from San Jose (by car). Thanks!

Long-time MeFi lurker finally asking a question — I'm a 24-year-old student in San Francisco looking for a job in the nonprofit sector, particularly with social justice organizations that work directly with people to find resources to help connect them to services, education, or other vital resources. Looking at Craigslist is pretty depressing; most of the jobs posted seem to be higher-level jobs, or want more formal education than I actually have.

I live with 4 other people (all of whom happen to be very good friends) in a 5-bedroom house in San Francisco, the Mission district specifically. Our house was built in 1923 and is generally in disrepair. Our landlords have been dragging their feet in regards to fixing some issues with our house that are very serious, in our eyes. The breaking point for us is that currently we have no working stove. Special snowflake details inside!

About a year ago, the vet at the San Francisco SPCA told us our cat needed to get her teeth cleaned (and possibly have some teeth extracted) and that it would be almost $1000. We know we need to do this, and were wondering if there are cheaper (but still good) alternatives available in San Francisco.

I'm trying to keep track of cheap tickets for a dream international flight in end July 2011. However, almost all the sites I looked at say I'm searching way too early and have no information for me. When is the best time to look, and are there any websites that will email me with details once a good price or deal shows up? (I vaguely remember hearing of such a thing but can't remember the URL)

I want to be a web designer. Am I making a big mistake trying to transfer from community college into San Francisco State's Visual Communication Design major rather than Cal State Long Beach's Art with an Option in Graphic Design
or San José State's Graphic Design BFA? I currently live in southern California (Long Beach, to be specific), but want to get away.

How do you find a dentist who is good with very anxious patients? Is it appropriate to ask, when making the appointment, if he’s willing to prescribe a sedative and/or use gas? I hear (often on askme) that people have marvelous, caring dentists who are willing to do whatever is necessary to make them comfortable, but where do you find one? I’ve got this list of dentists covered by my insurance, I need one that can fill my cavities without leaving me in hysterics, and I don’t know how to go about discovering who that will be.

I live in an oldish (1920s) apartment building, in a studio. A while ago I tried the time-honored "scream and rant to an empty room" method of anger management--and got a visit from a
dozen cops my neighbor called, and who went through my place to check that I wasn't axe-murdering someone or anything like that. This is, of course, not sustainable, but if I can't rant at home, where can I rant?
