Help my sister identify this outtake or live skit. As my sister describes the scene, there's a man eating a sandwich and the sound effects keep getting out of synch. Eventually he turns to the camera/audience and says something along the lines of "You know, I have to eat this whole sandwich." Other details which may or may not be correct: black and white in front of a live audience. She seems to think that there's supposed to be something inedible in the sandwich like a pearl necklace.

Where to find the best sandwiches in Atlanta, GA?

Best place for delicious sandwiches in Atlanta, GA? My family is coming to visit me soon, and I have not explored my own city very much. We want to go eat delicious sandwiches, and I want to know the best place. I'm looking for something like Highland Bakery in Old Fourth Ward. (I would also consider going back there, but wondered if there was an even better place.)

I am in midtown, but would consider anywhere within 30 minutes or so, with bonus points for cute, in-town neighborhoods.

Suggestions?

It's raining sandwiches...

Found a sandwich inside my locked garage. The car was undamaged. What now? The background: My car is my most valuable possession, and I'm completely dependent on it, especially on weekends. I rent a one car garage a couple of blocks from my apartment. The owner of the garage is not my landlord, and also rents out a rowhouse around the corner from the garage. The garage is detached from the rowhouse, adjacent to an alley, on a main street, and is pretty much a nice wooden box to keep my car in.

The event: This morning, when getting my car from the garage, I noticed slices of baloney and bread on the floor of the garage, a few feet from the door. It was enough sandwich for a nice 6 inch sub. The door of the garage was locked and my car was not damaged. There's a gap between the garage door and the sidewalk, where the sidewalk kind of dips, and I guessed that someone had thrown half of a sandwich in between this gap. All the sandwich pieces were lined up in a row inside the garage, from 2 to 3 feet from the door. In the alley next to the garage was a styrofoam box, some spilled lettuce, tomato, and onion.

I don't know who would have done this - it really seems like someone took the time to throw the sandwich inside the garage, and it wasn't just dropped outside on the sidewalk accidentally. There are garbage cans along the entire alley, so it's not like there was nowhere else to throw away a dropped sandwich. Presumably, whoever did it also doesn't have a key to the garage, or else my car would have been damaged or at least baloney-ed. Right now, I'm thinking it's either some random kids in the neighborhood doing random things, or I've inadvertently pissed off some passive-aggressive person.

One of the reasons this bugs me is that the garage is right next to an alley where people keep their trash for pickup. There are some pretty large rodents in Baltimore hanging out in the alleys, and I've heard stories about people finding litters of rats inside their car engines.

Neither the landlord nor the property manager have been very responsive in the past, and they both live farther from the garage than I do. I want to put something to cover the gap between the garage door and the sidewalk - is there some sort of netting or something I could put in that will go to the sidewalk? Where would I get it and how would I install it? Should I go talk to the people in the rowhouse who rent from the landlord? I don't know them, but maybe they can give me some idea about what happened? Or maybe I've accidentally done something to piss off these very people and they're the ones who threw the sandwich? What's my next step?

Where can I get a Philadelphia-style vegetarian hoagie in Toronto? It's been almost a year since I left Philly and I really need a proper sandwich. My hoagie of choice was the Veggie Diablo from Primo.

I have a little difficulty articulating what it is exactly that makes a good hoagie so different from subway but it's some combination of a long chewy roll, top quality prepared Italian ingredients, and oil rather than mayo.

I have a car, so anywhere in the GTA is okay, but I'd really like to eat it at home, so places that do take out or delivery are preferred.

I'm trying to track down a series of mystery novels to surprise my mother with this Christmas.
Is the $20 Las Vegas sandwich for real?

Is the twenty dollar sandwich a myth? We are headed to THEHotel at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and I'm wondering if it is worthwhile trying this trick. It's really not my style to try and ask for more than what we've paid for and I wonder if this sort of bribe or whatever you want to call it is something that is perhaps a little tacky to try at a hotel like the one we are staying at. After a decent amount of searching and signing up for sites like "groupon" I have yet to find the great deals on shows, meals or hotels that people rumour to exist. Do hotel clerks really have the ability to offer complimentary upgrades? Do they have reduced price tickets or better yet free tickets - and how really do I go about getting these?

Sandwiches should not be quite this damp. Eew.

How do I keep a sandwich overnight without it getting soggy and gross? Once a week I tutor for a family that feeds me dinner. Every week without fail, they get me a foot long sub. Super nice, right? I can only eat half of it while I'm there, so I try to save the other half for lunch the next day. Almost every time it ends up so damp and icky that I end up just tossing it and buying lunch that day. How do I prevent this?

I don't put any kind of liquidy stuff on the sandwich to begin with, so it's just meat, cheese, and veggies. I've tried all different permutations of keeping it wrapped in paper, putting it in a ziplock, leaving the ziplock open so the moisture can get out, sealing the ziplock so the moisture can't get in, varied temperatures in the fridge, etc. Is there anything I can do that will leave the sandwich edible the next day?

Thanks!

Do you want a sandwich? Something open faced?

How are you supposed to eat an open faced sandwich? I usually partially reconstruct the sandwich by putting the lettuce or other accompaniments on top of the usual filling and then pick it up like a pizza slice, but this is kind of messy and in-elegant (I felt like people are staring at how messy I was being). Are you supposed to cut it up and eat it with a fork? What happens if it's on a baguette that's impervious to a standard dinner knife (as is often the case at French cafes)?

Sandwiches of the future.

I enjoy sandwiches, but I am looking for an alternative filler to the standard meat and cheese that I would normally put in them. The goal of the filler, at least to me, is to provide both protein and fat to the carbohydrates of the bread. Meat and cheese do a great job of this, but I am tired of eating cheese, and I won't be eating processed lunch meats any longer.

I am looking for cheap, fast alternative ideas like humus, spinach and carrot sandwiches. (I would note PB&J, but that as a given.)

Any favorites that would add both protein and fat?

Name for a new sandwich

I have a chance to name a new sandwich at a favorite lunch spot. I have a chance to name a new sandwich at a favorite lunch spot. I gave the owner the idea making some tweaks on an existing sandwich. He liked the idea and said it will be on the menu next week. Then he said I had to name it.

The new sandwich will be a Carolina style pulled chicken, marinated in Buffalo wing sauce with Gorgonzola cheese. All stuffed in a hallowed out sub roll to make a "handwich".

I've been racking my brain for a name that might incorporate a Buffalo/Carolina connection, but Buffalina or Carofalo are the lazy way out. Also, using my nickname "Eman" in the name of the sandwich would not bother me. So bombard me with your ideas.

Healthy/organic/free range cold cuts? Read Omnivore's Dilemma, saw Food, Inc. Horribly frightened of processed meats and refuse to support factory farming. Have been hitting farmer's markets for the last couple of years to get free-range and pastured chicken, beef, and pork. Yet, I love me some sandwich meats. How do I go about getting thin, delicious slices of turkey, roast beef, or ham that have come from humanely raised, safely slaughtered, and preferably local animals? I live in Central Pennsylvania. How does one go about determining how a company processes their meat?

Smells like...

How do I make the tuna sandwich from sandwich places? I hate eating sandwiches at restaurants because I can make 99% of their menu at home. Eating a dip dish pizza, sushi, all sorts of rich thick complex dishes, or even really good french fries are fine because I can't make this kind of stuff at home without specialized equipment. I also don't want to spend two to three hours to prepare something that I will eat in about fifteen minutes.

I am totally prepared to pay whatever restaurants want so they can take the burden of buying the specialized equipment and spending the time making it. No problem.

But when I eat a tuna sandwich, I am totally disgusted with myself. I'm watching them make my sandwich which really doesn't save me time. I'm basically consenting to a 250% markup so I can get the convenience of not making a sandwich.

I hate that.

But I continue to go back to Subway, Jersey Mikes, and other specialty sub places because I LOVE the taste of their tuna sandwiches.

How the hell do they make it?

I use the same breads, condiments, toppings, salads, cheeses, everything....but I still can't recreate their tuna sandwiches at home. I can easily recreate a turkey sandwich, roast beef sandwich, or any other classic subs.

I have used cheaper tuna, I have used albacore tuna, I have used wierd ass Italian tuna that comes in jars. Its all tasty...but it doesn't have the taste that I get from sandwich shops.

When I see them peel that cellophane top off that that plastic bucket at subway with an ice cream scooper, and stick their half-protected arms into that slop my stomach goes "oh no. you ain't gonna eat that ish". But I do. I eat that ish like its the ambrosia of the gods.

What the hell are those secret ingredients in the sandwich slop that makes me keep coming back? Its not just at Subway, its pretty much at any specialty submarine/hoagy/sandwich shop.

I've used all sorts of mayo, chopped celery, spices, dressing...but I have still not gotten it correct.

What is the trade secret?

Thanks guys.

What else can I keep at my desk for making sandwiches? I'm bored of peanut butter and jam. I keep PB and jam at my desk in the office. That way, I can just grab some bread on leaving the house in the morning, and make a sandwich at my desk when I get hungry at lunchtime.

PB and jam are nice, but I tire of them. What other sandwich fillings can I keep *at my desk* without refrigeration. Sweet and savoury both good. I'm vegetarian, but I doubt that's relevant here (meat not being shelf stable, and all that).

I have an elderly family member who I've always had a very hard time getting along with. We've always been like oil and water. We just don't mix. She is pretty similar to Tony's mom on the Sopranos: negative, hostile and set in her ways.

However, as she gets older it's come upon family members such as myself to become caregivers. The struggle comes from caring for someone for whom I never cared much and who I feel bad when I'm around.

How can I learn to be above these difficult feelings? I'd like to be more patient and learn to be loving even when I feel that this isn't returned. I'm wondering what has worked for others and if you have any specific techniques or suggestions. Thanks.

I'm looking for more riddles like "the seagull sandwich" and "the guy who goes to work every day, takes the elevator to the 35th floor, gets out, walks the stairs to the 38th except when it rains" and the one where Romeo and Juliet are dead on the floor surrounded by shards of glass.

Though preferably harder and better.

Thanks! And as I can't see how this can not turn into a spoilerfest I'd like to apologise on beforehand....

Battered Sandwiches?

Where can I get a Monte Cristo sandwich in the East Bay? I can't believe that I've gotten this far in life without learning that people sometimes deep-fry sandwiches without being clapped in irons and shipped to a hardscrabble island in the South Pacific. I must try one of these!

So where in the San Francisco Bay Area, preferably the East Bay, can I get a shining example of this culinary marvel?

What do you call a long, thin sandwich, and where do you live? I'm looking for information about what people call a {hoagie, grinder, hero, sub[marine sandwich], etc.} based upon where (specifically in the U.S.) they live. Any help, anecdotes, personal or family histories, pet theories, and so forth would be welcome. Thanks!

Seriously this was a really good sandwich.

Can I patent a sandwich? I may have just invented the best sandwich ever, and before I reveal the recipe I want to know it's safe from those would attempt to misuse it's power for evil. Naturally, I would share it, but I want to protect my invention first. There are only two ingredients but pairing them is pretty rare. Turns out it tastes great. Can a sandwich be patented at all? Does it have to be weird enough before I can? Do I have to commercially exploit it in order to patent it? Is the cost prohibitive for whimsical patents? Is the world ready to accept a vegetarian candidate for the king of sandwiches?

I'm not even hungry and I want one now. I might go to the supermarket for more ingredients even though I don't need any other groceries. It's that good. My mouth is watering thinking about it. It's hard to overstate how good this sandwich was, but I like to think it was art

I could be rich from this. People would take out loans for these babies. We're talking devote your whole life to getting them because nothing taste good in comparison, living in the gutter begging for change to go buy one type good.

Naturally, after becoming independently wealthy I would donate profits to charity and allow certain organizations free use of the recipe, you know, pull a Paul Newman, I mean, there's only so much money one guy needs.

It would be kind of cool to have a patent as a conversation piece. I'm in New Zealand so our patent law might be a bit weird. Is there anyone I can call to get (preferably free) advice from?

And where can I order bulk quantities of cough syrup?

Where's the beef?

Where can I get a great roast beef sandwich in Boston? The wife and I love the roast beef sandwiches from Bill & Bob's, Kelly's, Jimmy's and even Toula's. Problem is, we live in Roslindale and we don't want to drive all the way to the Saugus, Lynn, Andover, Georgetown, Revere, or Natick to get really good roast beef sandwiches. Are there any really awesome roast beef sandwiches to be had in Boston, Brookline, Newton, Quincy, Milton or the near South Shore? I know about Chowhound and Yelp, but I'm looking for recommendations from MeFites based on their own experiences.

Cheap and portable signs for a protest?

I'll be participating in my first ever protest later this month. What is an economical way to make hand-held signs and sandwich boards which are sturdy enough to survive a day of protesting on possibly windy streets, but also light and compact enough to transport easily? I'll be participating in a protest on the street in New York City later this month.

I'd like to cobble together some hand-held signs and sandwich boards for myself and others to use.

Since many of the participants will be traveling in from out of state to attend, I'd also like to be able to easily transport a bunch of signs/boards with me on trains and subways so that I can give them to others to use.

My initial thoughts are for foam core sheets with laser printed paper glued to them, using small pvc pipe for hand-held signs and linking two sheets together with plastic cable ties for sandwich boards.

Any better ideas out there?
