On Tuesday, my cousin's dog let forth a deluge of pee on my feet. It was LOTS of pee. I was wearing my favorite leather sandals (very similar to these
). While I cleaned off my feet, my cousin cleaned my sandals with a wet towel (no soap). I had to wear them the rest of the day, before I traveled home on Wednesday. I feel kind of icky at the prospect of wearing them again. How should I clean them?

A portmanteau for this man's poor toes:
Are Keen Newports good shoes for a long trip to Disney World in August? If not, what beats them? I mean, can I simply wear my running shoes?
Do you try on footwear like this with or without socks?
Do you allow extra room on the assumption that your feet will swell in the steam heat? [more inside]

I think I may be the most difficult shoe-buyer ever. I want them to be 1) vegetarian (no leather) and 2) actually supportive and good for my knees and feet or able to hold supportive orthotics such that they become that way. This generally gets me a small selection of flat boots, oxfords, and sneakers, with the odd casual/sporty mary-jane thrown in.
I'd like to have more than just boots to go with dresses/skirts (particularly for the summer or for really dressy dresses), but I thought it was an impossibility and had moved on with my life. But lo, I just
discovered the brand Orthaheel
, and they have cute flat vegetarian orthotic sandals! Why oh why did the world hide this brand from me until now?! Do you know of other brands or specific shoes that will expand my shoe cuteness? [more inside]

Can I learn how to walk differently? When I walk, I drag my heels. I always wear Birkenstock sandals, and this way of walking causes my heels to wear away much faster than the rest of the shoe, leading to more frequent (expensive-ish) repairs. Can I train myself to walk another way? I know people do it in necessary times (e.g. loss of limb, spinal cord/brain damage, etc.) but I just WANT to change. Possible?

Looking for bulletproof women's sandals, preferably made in Europe. I want something that will last me years and be comfortable for daily wear and occasional long walks. The ones that were my go-to are no longer made in Europe, and lasted about 1/4 the time as the last (identical) pair. [more inside]

What should I wear to a destination wedding in St. Barths? It's going to be full of super-swanky people (fashion industry & banker types), and I'm but a 21 year old on a student's budget who has never gone to a wedding before. Dress and shoe recommendations highly appreciated, preferably from stores in NYC. [more inside]

Can anybody recommend some children's sandals (no flip-flops)? Here's the criteria I'm looking for:
* Relatively inexpensive.
* Good for walking (we don't have a car).
* Can get wet without falling apart (we live near a lake).
* Will securely hold to the child's foot (won't fall off easily like flip-flops).

I have many pairs of Birkenstocks, about 25 or so, and I can no longer wear some of my favourites due to their funky odour. I've tried using the Birkenstock brand footbed cleaner, and other mild detergents, but haven't had great success getting the funk out. Looking for suggestions for how to clean old smelly pairs, and also how to prevent the funk from settling into new pairs. Natural solutions preferred, please.

I'm sick of buying Old Navy flip-flops
every year, only to have them wear out on me in early August, when I'd like to keep wearing them well into October.
I'd like to invest in one or two really awesome pairs that will last me through at least an entire year of wear, if not more. The style must be similar. Solid color, cushy sole, not too heavy, straps that are about the same width or a touch wider and don't irritate my feet. Preferably not too expensive, but if they'll last me several years I'd consider it. I'd like to start with solid black, but I would spring for a brown pair if I found something really good. So, any recommendations? Have any of you found flip-flops that have held up continuously, or are they just typically made to be worn through quickly? Bonus points for something that has a little bit of arch support to it.

I think these "barefoot sandals"
would be quite fetching if done in a dark brown satin-finish cord and attached to a leather sole (something like these
), and I’m trying to figure out how to go about it. Making the crochet part is no problem at all, but finding a sole and attaching the two is going to be a challenge. I'm hoping that the accomplished MeFi online shoppers can help me, and also that there's a MeFite or two who know something about cobbling. [more inside]
