Why yes, I WOULD like a (non-free) sample! So the discovery of perfume decant vials and snack samples (like Nuts.com and Sugarfina's sample packs/tasting bags) have greatly enhanced my life. What other things (food/drink and health/beauty are categories that immediately come to mind, but I'm open to ALL things) are readily available for purchase in sample sizes? Note that I'm NOT interested in beauty or snack subscription boxes... I'd like items that I choose, in quantities I choose, on a non-recurring basis.

I've always had a thing for songs which sample snatches of movie or television dialogue. This question covered similar material, but I'm not specifically looking for remixes that appeared on an affiliated movie's soundtrack. [more inside]
If you work a job where you're expected to provide "samples" in your job search, how do you deal with the confidentiality aspect? I feel like if I was an employer, I would find it similar to the taboo against saying anything in negative in an interview. "Well if you're willing to say this about them, what are you going to say about me?" = "If you're willing to show me everything they're up to, how can I trust you to keep my information private?" But presumably people get jobs in this field every day, so there must be a lot of this going on? So there must be some expectation this is acceptable? Nobody I asked has been able to give me an answer to this other than a shrug.

Could someone please tell me the original song that features the breath sound with delayed effect that you hear in this sample (check at about 0.06). This is a snippet I recorded from a recent mix by MJ Cole. Perhaps it's even one of Mr. Cole's songs.. but which? And if it is do you think the breath sound was created by him or was it sampled from older material? I'm almost certain I've heard it elsewhere.

Dear MetaFilter, can you recommend marketing companies who specialize in producing small-yet-nifty promotional items?
O, MetaFilter, I seek your wisdom! I work at a local Health Club, and my General Manager has tasked me with searching out marketing companies which offer promotional items with which to emblazon with the Club's logo. Can anyone offer any recommendations? My employers are particularly interested in pens and keychains . . . thanks!

The track www.nevergetoveryou uses the ICQ "Uh oh!" sample. What other commercially released music uses samples from computer programs, OSs, or related geeky sources?
many programs and devices have a function that slows down or speeds up audio without changing the pitch. my rockheaded layman's theory on illustrating how this must be done is that it divides the whole audio track into something like audio pixels that are so short that they can be shortened without actually removing any of the details that you're hearing-- it's just you're hearing every small detail for less of an amount of time (likewise with slower speed, it lengthens the amount of time that you hear every of those little "audio pixels" so that it is twice as slow). PF Project's song Choose Life is constructed from samples of a monologue by the lead character of the film Trainspotting. Similarly, This Is Your Life by the Dust Brothers is built around samples from the film Fight Club reformulated as a monologue and overlaid on some trip-hop beats. Neither was actually featured in the film, but were released as singles and appeared on the soundtrack. What other songs like this are there?

Sample identification filter: What is the background loop on DJ Babu's "Sound Music" (MP3 preview from EMusic here)? I'm a hundred percent sure that I've heard it used before on some hip-hop track I used to love, but an hour of five second stretches from my most likely suspects didn't yield a hit. Any ideas, hive-mind?

For a few years now I've noticed a sample that I believe is the same in two songs. Posse in Effect by the Beastie Boys, and Take it Slow by Technotronic (scroll down to Pump up the Jam)... Each page has a sample to listen to. It seems to be a slow sax sample. I'm not sure, but that's what I think it is. Is it the same sample? If so, does anyone know where it's sampled from?
