So I am a female in my 20s, just moved to NYC, and need to find a top rate hair salon that does natural-looking highlights--which, as all we women know, requires word-of-mouth recommendations. Please, beauty junkie mefites, help!

I need salon/spa recommendations in Savannah or Richmond Hill GA. Specifically, I'm looking for a place to get a brazilian wax and also looking for a new hair stylist. Bonus if I can find them in one location or close together. Super-bonus if there's a bit of interesting shopping near by.

How can I cultivate / find deeper conversations with people? In university it was always easy to find people ready to talk about philosophy, politics, psychology, etc. But now, as I have gotten older and supplanted myself into the corporate world, the art of conversation seems to have been lost. It would appear that most people are resigned to talking about kids, jobs, and pop culture. Am I just in the wrong social circles or does this type of small talk permeate our culture? I long to attend a French salon or dinner party whose primary purpose is the art of conversation. Where can I find groups of people who like engaging, face-to-face conversation? How can I steer people away from talking about what they saw on CNN and towards something with a little more substance?

What free or cheap software, or webapps, can I recommend to help my friend manage and build her small business, a salon? Although there is software out there specifically made for this purpose, it seems out of her price range and shares a lot in common with more general software.

Other than asking friends, what do I look for / how do I find an incredible men's hair stylist? And once found, how do I help them help me? It's time for a major restyling but it will be a tall order if it can be pulled off, so I fear most stylists are going to think they're up to it, then botch it. How do you sleuth which stylists are the ones to trust?
(Bonus points for non-country-specific answers, so I can find good stylists wherever I go)

Went with friend went for a haircut; got nicked (twice) by the hair stylist. Back of the neck. Not sure if it was because it was a brand new clipper or a really old (rusty?) one -- Is he paranoid in worrying about it or is it something that should be taken care of immediately? Guy, and this is the Bubbles salon if that matters.

i have friends that owns a quite wonderful hair salon/art gallery in a slightly off the beaten path part of town - they would like to find a handful of stylists to add to their roster of existing stylists renting chairs from them... any thoughts on how they might market the salon to stylists with existing clientele? tough one.
thanks in advance.

A friend is hosting an event at her house tomorrow night, a kind of "salon" evening featuring a few authors, wine, and conversation. I'd like to get her some kind of hostess gift, but not the usual bottle of wine, since we'll have wine galore, and not the Bath & Body Works gift bag, since she's not that kind of gal. Any ideas?

I'd like an open source version of Salon.com for a trade-specific website. Everyone can see part of an article, subscribers can see the entire article. I'd prefer to spend my time creating content and the less on code and administration on my side, the better. Are there any open source apps which do this or am I doomed to code it from scratch?

EtiquetteFilter: An hour removed from the salon now, I can see that I have just been on the receiving end of a bad spa treatment at a local salon. I've called, explained the problem and asked for a refund. What's the etiquette on tips? I left the appropriate tip for the amount of the service, and charged the rest on credit card.
