I'm told that my hair sucks. I live near Atlanta. Help?

A couple of weeks ago, my wife took mercy on me and told me that my hair looks ridiculous. The words she used were "it's dated" and "sometimes I cringe when you go out like that." OK then, message received. Here's the problem: I have no clue what I would want it to look like. I can fit what I want into three very broad parameters: [more inside]

If I could give her Scissorhands, I would

One of my best and oldest friends had a rough few years, went to rehab, made a fresh start, and is about to graduate beauty school with flying colors. I'd love gift suggestions for a very hip hairstylist just starting out that tells her how insanely proud I am that she bravely learned something new, busted ass to become good at it and has created new self-confidence in a sober future. Any suggestions? [more inside]

Where can I get my hair cut cheaply, yet stylishly, in NYC?

I am in NYC and would like to get my hair cut. I do not want to pay the GDP of a small country for it. Where can I, a woman with long hair, find a good stylist who listens, knows how to adapt a style to fit a face, and above all, isn't expensive? [more inside]

Cut my hair... please!

[SeattleHaircutFilter]. I am a man in his late 20s in Seattle looking to invest in a decent, not-too-expensive, but not necessarily cheap haircut. I'm more or less looking for a place where I can go in and say "oh, I'm not sure, use your best judgment," and walk out with something better-looking than I would have known to ask for. Does anyone know of such a beast in this town?

salons in savannah

I need salon/spa recommendations in Savannah or Richmond Hill GA. Specifically, I'm looking for a place to get a brazilian wax and also looking for a new hair stylist. Bonus if I can find them in one location or close together. Super-bonus if there's a bit of interesting shopping near by.

Lifeskills: how to find a men's hairstylist that knows their stuff?

Other than asking friends, what do I look for / how do I find an incredible men's hair stylist? And once found, how do I help them help me? It's time for a major restyling but it will be a tall order if it can be pulled off, so I fear most stylists are going to think they're up to it, then botch it. How do you sleuth which stylists are the ones to trust? (Bonus points for non-country-specific answers, so I can find good stylists wherever I go) [more inside]
