How do I make winter pedicures work?

Okay, I feel a bit goofy asking this question...but here goes! I just got back from my trusty nail salon. For the second time this winter, the nail polish on my toes was completely destroyed on the brief 10-minute walk home from the salon. Any advice on keeping polish looking nice when open-toed shoes aren't seasonally appropriate? [more inside]

Do I need to re-tip?

Simple question! Got hair done, wasn't thrilled with results, stylist wasn't thrilled with results either, and I'm going back today to have it fixed for free. But do I need to re-tip!? [more inside]

What's a nice to way to demand, "Please fix my hair so I don't look like I work at Hot Topic."

I just spent way too much money at the salon for highlights, and after a few days I realized that I am not happy with the outcome. Is there any standard recourse or should I just fix this myself? [more inside]

Unique Hostess Gift

A friend is hosting an event at her house tomorrow night, a kind of "salon" evening featuring a few authors, wine, and conversation. I'd like to get her some kind of hostess gift, but not the usual bottle of wine, since we'll have wine galore, and not the Bath & Body Works gift bag, since she's not that kind of gal. Any ideas?

Bad Spa

EtiquetteFilter: An hour removed from the salon now, I can see that I have just been on the receiving end of a bad spa treatment at a local salon. I've called, explained the problem and asked for a refund. What's the etiquette on tips? I left the appropriate tip for the amount of the service, and charged the rest on credit card.
