Ordered cell phone online. Picked up cell phone in person. Salesman claims order was cancelled and happily placed a new order on the spot. Am I being paranoid by smelling a rat? Details inside... [more inside]
The other night I had a salesman come to my door from "The Window Store Home Improvements, Inc." He gave me a nice spiel about how they're looking for homes in my area that are willing to put advertising signs out front, and willing to be listed on their website, www.twshomesinc.com. In exchange they can give me new windows at wholesale cost instead of retail. The salesman also said that their windows are warranteed for 50 years, which he said was much more than typical warranties. [more inside]
What is the business model of people who sell socks at intersections? [more inside]
[bait and switch filter] I purchased a washer and dryer last weekend, but have heard back that, due to a mistake on their end, the wrong price was quoted and is now $300 higher. Should we cover their cost and pay more, or argue that they must honor their guaranteed written estimate, which we've already paid? [more inside]
I'm considering upgrading my internet service. I currently have basic DSL from AT&T bundled with a landline. Today a couple of guys with "AT&T uverse solutions provider" ID's came to the door and want to sell me this Uverse service. I'm suspicious. [more inside]
Why do some successful salesmen get fired by their employers after a really big commission sale? Logically, one would suppose that employers would want to keep talented salesmen. What incentives would an employer have to do so?
My family owns a small business. We manufacture boxes, which we sell to other industrial clients. We've hired a salesman, but he has no sales experience. (We're okay with that.) We're teaching him about boxes, but we'd like to get him some sort of training in sales. We don't have traditional expectations (we think of the job more as "customer relations"), and aren't going to demand that he meet quotas, but we'd like him to have grounding in the basics. Can you recommend some good books on sales? How about training seminars in the Portland (Oregon) area? Any web sites he should read? Info on how to approach cold calls would be especially helpful. (So far we're just going with the "baptism of fire" approach, which has its pros and cons.)
Help me find a specific childrens book that shows illustrations of different professionals (fireman with his hose, doctor with his stethoscope, etc.) which depicts a "Salesman" in a cheesy checkered suit. [more inside]
We got a great deal from a car dealership. What should we get the salesperson as a sign of gratitude? [more inside]
Can anybody recommend a particularly good generic book (or video) on how to become a successful salesman? [more inside]
I've just purchased my very first new car. However, in the process, I visited nine dealerships - 7 of them asked me for a cash deposit before they would even discuss prices with me. The one dealership that I gave a $500CDN deposit to (I later changed my mind on it) took almost 2 hours to refund my deposit. What are my rights, and what are strategies to get around this deposit requirement?
