Have you ever tried to send a piece of mail at the post office certified or signed? Yesterday I tried and the lady went into all this strange ins and outs to justify why I should pay $5 for priority mail envelop instead of the $2.50 (or so) I could pay to just track it (if I skipped the mailed receipt option). This included telling me I'd have to pay for the envelope (which is fine), but insinuating it would be expensive and deflecting how much an envelope would actually be (finally admitting it's only 10 cents).

I've been hanging out with my wife and her booth partner at a handmade goods market they sell at each week. It's pretty typical stuff, jewelry, crafts of various kinds. They also go to art festivals on occasion to sell their wares.
We've been discussing sales techniques that could help them out. I'm wondering if there is such an animal: sales techniques for the artisan seller? [more inside]

Who can license music for download/sale? A friend came up with a wicked cool idea for selling music using the internet, but it can't be done through some affiliate mp3 link (like Amazon). We're just a couple of college guys, and we don't know any rockstars or label executives. [more inside]

My family owns a small
business. We manufacture boxes, which we sell to other industrial clients. We've hired a salesman, but he has no sales experience. (We're okay with that.) We're teaching him about boxes, but we'd like to get him some sort of training in sales. We don't have traditional expectations (we think of the job more as "customer relations"), and aren't going to demand that he meet quotas, but we'd like him to have grounding in the basics. Can you recommend some good books on sales?
How about training seminars in the Portland (Oregon) area? Any web sites he should read? Info on how to approach cold calls would be especially helpful. (So far we're just going with the "baptism of fire" approach, which has its pros and cons.)

My firm is trying to decide whether to hire a marketing/sales director. I have been tasked with gathering information about marketing and sales in general and presenting that information to the team, so that we can make a decision. So, what are the key responsibilities and duties of a marketing/sales director? What will such a person bring to our team? What's a good way to go about finding the right person for the position? What qualities should we look for in the hiring process? I am particularly interested in service marketing, for small consulting firms. [more inside]

Since the prof has not supplied any chart templates for the class, and I don't have all day to wait for her email reply, where on the internets might I find said chart to coordinate all these activities in a sane manner? [more inside]

His shop isn't there any more. Anyone know where I can find him? If not, anyone know where I can get a basic beginner's pedal steel guitar for under $1000?

I'm looking to make some extra income online. How viable is Affiliate Marketing? I currently have no websites, but I am reasonably conversant in web concepts and terms. Anyone have success in this area of online business? If so, how long did it take you to start earning a profit on your campaigns? What kind of input was necessary to achieve these profits? Basically I'm just wondering if this is a viable option for someone with no experience in online business and sales.

My singing group sells CDs online using paypal (accepting credit cards) on our website. We also sell CDs at shows where we perform, and so far have been accepting only cash and check. We would like to accept credit cards in hopes of getting even more sales.
I'm having trouble finding/understanding the information on the paypal website. Basically, can we get peoples' credit card info (the chick chunk slider?) and manually enter the credit card info into paypal at a later time? (I don't mind doing this manually, it's 50 transactions at the most.)
We are straying away from the automatic machines because 1) we won't always have access to power and phone lines 2)we don't want to sign up with another merchant account.
Thanks for the help!
