How much do PHP developers in NYC get paid?

What's the going rate for a PHP developer in NYC? I'm not actually defreckled but am borrowing this account.

I work as a PHP developer in NYC with a couple of years experience. A contract agency wants to pay me $50/hour on a contract (1099) basis and my friends think I'm being ripped off. What is the going rate for developers in this area? How much do people get paid full time?

What hourly rate should I quote to be an on-site web-development / graphics guy contractor?

What hourly rate should I quote to be an on-site web-development / graphics guy contractor? I have been running my own free-lance business for a year now after leaving the corporate job role after seventeen years. I decided to re-enter the workforce and received an offer from a company I would love to work for, but... the COO wants me to work as an independent hourly on-site contractor. I don't have a problem with that at all, but I'm having a hard time coming up with an hourly rate to quote.

Some key facts:

My last "real job" salary was $68,000.

My standard contractor rate has been $75 per hour. I estimate the time to complete a project and bill for the entire project.

This looks like it will be a long-term (at least a year, probably more) position.

As a contractor, I would receive no benefits of any sort.

It would, generally, be 40 hours a week for a standard work week, but there will be times when more is expected and needed.

The web work is both design (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and development (PHP, XHTML, SQL, etc.).

There will also be the occasional random graphic task such as postcard design and so on.

Finally, they really, really like and want me. They didn't bat an eye when finding out about my previous salaries.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

What is the pay rate for an Information Architect in Seattle?

What is the current pay rate for an information architect in the Seattle area? Hi there,

I'm currently in the Seattle job market, looking for positions involving Information Architecture. I've had a few interviews so far, and when I'm asked what my pay rate is, I usually quote 45 an hour.

A fellow IA I talked to this weekend told me I was nuts to quote that low, and should start the rate around 55-60. The rate I was quoting was more inline with what a Junior Information Architect might be expecting. Apparently 55 is the norm, while 70 and up are reserved for Senior IA's who have at least 5-7 years in the field.

I've been to a couple of salary sites that are supposed to track this sort of thing, but I've found nothing conclusive.

Can anyone help me figure out what I should be telling contracting companies (or even human resource departments) what my hourly/yearly salary requirements are?

Going Permanent

Ok, so I'm going permanent at this place I've been freelancing for 3 years (it's been a regular gig--2-3 wks/month)--I negotiated a good salary, and an extra week of vacation for the permanent position, but I've never ever liked being permanent and have always felt trapped. Any tips and tricks to help make it psychologically more bearable and cushion the loss of my freedom? a little more inside I'll admit i've been spoiled, but worked hard to arrange my life the way it was--maybe i should have just left instead of going permanent? I know all the people and like them, and like my work, but cherished my time off--I could travel, and relax, etc...Any Freuds in the crowd or Lucy from Peanuts, please help!
