How do Russians refer to the fall of communism, and the changes that followed? Before this they had lots of cool works like perestroika and glasnost. Do they have a word for that too?

I'm usually the dude that answers questions like this, but for the life of me, I can't remember the title of the film. It was early-mid 80's, possibly a TV Movie, where two "righteous dudes" are kidnapped and brought to this town that looks eerily like small town Kansas circa 1950. It turns out that this city is a training ground for Soviet sleeper agents, and the dudes were kidnapped to update the training program. In the end, the dudes lead an escape from the town back to America.

Did they really get the bright idea to host a college football game in Soviet Russia, and then have to cancel it because they couldn't sell enough vacation packages? The Wikipedia entry about the
Glasnost Bowl has a bunch of outdated angelfire pages as its sources. The
1989 New York Times article that mentions it doesn't treat it as very interesting. I think it would make a publishable journal article if it's real and am looking for more info.

Quick question. Can you dial 911 in Russia? If not, what is the emergency number ? Is it a police/fire/or ambulance response ? Or do you just call an individual police number. Any info, please let me know.

Me and my gf want to visit the Altai Republic in Russia. However a friend of ours wanted to visit the place, but weren't allowed to enter because he didn't have a permit. So where does one get a permit to enter the Altai Republic and why is it necessary to get one? I mean, a tourist-visa should be able to give you access to most of the country as long as the cities you want to visit is stated on the visa.

I'll be taking the Trans-Siberian from Beijing to Moscow, leaving next Saturday. I'd like to spend my five days on the train doing a cram course and learning as much basic Russian as I can. I already know the alphabet, and some very basic phrases (ie. "where is the metro?"). Are there any good online courses I can print out and take with me?

I'm trying to remember what the title of this movie was. I think it was made in the 1960's or 1970's in the U.S. I remember watching it on TV on the Sunday Matinee show in the 1980's. The plot involved this millionaire who wanted to attack the Soviet Union, he had a small force which was to attack Russia by driving trucks across the polar ice cap. All I can remember was that in the end of the film his plan is thwarted by the Soviets, who send planes to bomb the ice, and the trucks sink to the bottom of the ocean. Any ideas?
