Minimalist Running Filter: How likely is it that I can get back into minimalist running again after minor injury? Details inside. [more inside]
How long do you need to "convert" to Vibram Five Finger or other "barefoot" shoes for distance running? [more inside]
The high school level anatomy and physiology class I teach is going to do a unit on running and movement. Help me figure out what size VFF's to request from a generous donor to accommodate as many of my current and future high school students possible. If you wear VFF's, I'd appreciate you looking inside and giving me your traditional shoe size (US) and VFF sizes (I think we're getting KSO's). If you have any other great foot physiology sites or books (not mentioned here or here), I'd appreciate that info, too. I just wiped out my local library. [more inside]
Help me find the right pair of minimalist shoes! I've been a member of a Crossfit gym for six months, which means I've been exposed to the peer pressure regarding Vibram FiveFingers. Plus, I'm starting to travel a lot (and lightly) and want a pair of running shoes that have a small footprint (heh) when packed in a suitcase. Recommendations for this recreational runner? Are Vibrams a good option? Which model? How do I size them? I'm training for next October's Portland Marathon, if that makes a difference. Bonus points for shoes available at REI (though that's not a requirement).
Who the hell can I trust to give me reliable advice about running shoes? And which goddamn shoes should I buy?
Ok, seriously: Is there any reliable information on running shoes out there? Who the hell can I trust? Every source of information seems either fraught with bias or complete fluff. What's a critical thinker to do? And more importantly, what goddamn shoes should I buy? [more inside]
I want to be a runner. But everytime I get started on a program that builds in distance and endurance (like Couch to 5K) I end up quitting because of the intense shin splints. [more inside]
