Salt Lake City trails and biking. This is a two part question- calling all cyclists/runnings in SLC, Utah- where are your favorite loops to cycle in the summer? I enjoy City Creek and biking through the avenues, but I feel like I am missing some good areas. Second question is about trail running.

I can run 6:30 miles for an hour, a little uncomfortably, or 7:00 miles pretty easily over the same interval. What would it take, training-wise, for me to run a sub-3-hour marathon?

I started running 2 - 3 weeks ago and I run around 3 miles every second day. So for the past week, I've had this sort of "pain" or somekind of uncomfortable feeling above my knee. The "pain" is not in the knee itself, but maybe in muscle above it? When I'm laying in bed or sitting it feels the same way. It doesn't hurt, but its just a little bit uncomfortable. Its kinda like a feeling of someone is squeezing a muscle just above my knee.
Should I be worried and go to a doctor or is this normal, when you havnt done any exercise for 8 years and just started? I'm 22 and male btw.

I liked doing fun runs and half marathons. Are there any other sports which offer similar events? Are bike races as beginner friendly?

For as long as I can remember, I haven't been able to run for more than a minute or two without pain in my shins. I just got orthotics, and they are helping a little. Are there any running shoes that could help me with this?
