So I have almost two decades of running experience, but I recently had to take several months off. Before the hiatus, I was at 25 to 40 miles per week (mpw). Coming back from zero, I got up to about 15 mpw in about a month, and started to have some knee pain. Nothing sharp, mostly stiffness when my knee was inactive for awhile. I know the easy answer is to back off, and I have, but I’m eager to get back to 40 mpw, so can any informed experts advise on what’s happening to me? [more inside]
You love Blade Runner, I love Blade Runner - a little too much. I need more. What are the best pieces of future noir media with the same setting/atmosphere? [more inside]
Sometime during the mid or late 1980s, I remember my parents discussing a news report of a marathon run held in Australia during the height of summer. One runner, the focus of the report, had apparently run so long (without rehydrating? maintaining electrolyte balance? resting?) that their leg muscles denatured or "cooked" and parts of leg needed to be surgically removed. Is this real? Can anyone guide me to a news report or similar evidence? Case study? Exhibit of medical curios?
I have two more long runs before the actual race in March and I'd like to break in everything I plan to wear/take in the next week or so. Can you MeFi runners suggest some good gear? List of what I think I need inside. [more inside]

For a project I'm currently working on as part of my graduation in Graphic Design, I wanted to compile something like an atlas of fictional cities. These may be from books, legends, stories, video games, advertisements, comics, really whatever... Even "real" cities but alternate versions, imagined or in some way deviate from their real counterpart are valid. [more inside]
My friend, who is a serious runner and has been having intense and un-fixable leg pain connected with running for the last few months, needs recommendations for high caliber sports medicine physicians in the Twin Cities metro area. She will likely be paying for appointments out of pocket (high deductible on her health insurance plan), so bonus points for more affordable or financially accommodating providers/practices. She is NOT looking for recommendations for a physical therapist, chiropractor, acupuncturist, or anything else similar to that, strictly sports medicine folks. Who should she see?

Where can I get modern, bright or otherwise designy carpet runners online or in Southern California? Long, long, by-the-foot options preferred, but if I find something I like I might just buy several of the same one. Other relevant information: I am allergic to beige.

There is a homestar runner cartoon that my wife and I were joking about this weekend... he is applying for a job or something and says "if you take a look at my resume" and pronounces it like resuming a download and not like a job resumé. Anyone know which cartoon this was in? [more inside]
