Where can I buy cool and inexpensive floor rugs/runners online? Please no IKEA or anything trying to look like IKEA-- their textiles mostly look tired to me.

Say you had ideas for a series of artsy rug designs. You don't have the money for something like
this, but are relatively crafty. Is it possible?

Handmade Persian/Turkish/Pakistani wool carpet question: If you have bought one recently in the US or Canada, or have visited a store where they are being sold, can you tell me what the level of quality and prices are like for varying sizes?

I want to buy area rugs that will have the minimum possible negative impact on my family's health (crawling baby, spouse with allergies). Low to moderate budget. Are Ikea wool rugs the way to go? If not, any other ideas for non-offgassing, somewhat non-allergenic, but still comfy floor coverings?

Has anybody had a great (or terrible) experience with stain-resistant carpets? Some guidance about brands and weaves would be great. We're looking for wall-to-wall white that can withstand some doggie dirt.

I'd like to know the best ways to mothproof oriental rugs short of taking them to a pro for treatment. Moths are sneaky and damage is found on hidden parts of rugs. mothballs are out, they smell too bad. Currently I use an ant/roach spray containing a synthetic pyrethrin compound. Does this seem a good idea, and if so at what frequency per year? Any one have a better method?

Jute rug damaged my floor! My wife and I are moving out of our apartment, and when we rolled up the jute rugs, there seems to be damage to floors underneath as though the actual rug wore into the floor.

I'm interested in buying a rug from
this company. The rug was handmade in India. I know forced child labor in rug manufacturing is a big problem in India. Is there any way of knowing whether a particular company's Indian rugs are made by exploited children? I emailed the company to ask, but it would be better to know independently.

My wife and I are thinking of buying a sisal or seagrass rug from Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrell or one of those places. I like the way they look brand new, but am worried about how it would wear. Are they easy to clean? How do you clean it--you can't vacuum it, can you? Will the cat shred it within 24 hours?
