Looking for a replacement for the soon-to-be-gone RSS reader Bloglines. Specific requirements inside... [more inside]
I've been an enthusiastic Bloglines user for years, and I've accumulated almost 1,000 items that I've marked as "keep new" which show up at the bottom of each of my feeds, waiting for me to finally get around to reading them. Now that I'm forced to switch (most likely to Google Reader), these items don't seem to get exported to the new reader. How can I retain these items as saved when I make the switch, so I don't have to try and read (or delete) all 1,000 of them by October 1st when Bloglines shuts down??
I'm looking for something like Twitter Trending Topics, but for news topics. [more inside]
Now that Bloglines is shutting down I need to find a new online feed reader for my secondary (entertainment) feeds. I already use Google Reader for work related feeds and like to keep my two streams uncrossed so I can avoid drifting off into entertainment land. What are the best other online feed readers? How do web feeds and news aggregators work? When a new blog post goes up does the aggregator automatically pick that up when it checks for updates to the feed or does each site's feed decide how often they update their feeds independent of how often the blog is updated? What is a good aggregator that lets me set how often to check feeds or even lets me check feeds manually?
Why would my Google Reader "Next" button (the one you can drag right onto your bookmarks toolbar) just take me to random sites every time I click it? I'm logged into my account and everything. Doesn't look like any previous questions posted here address this particular problem.
There are a number of websites that show the odds and (if I'm using the term right), the "lines" for various sporting events that physical and online casinos offer (linking would be spammy, but a quick search of "vegas odds" or some such thing will turn them up). My question is how do the site owners obtain the data from the casinos? I have to imagine the data is provided subject to a license agreement (and I would expect there to be some sort of schema to prevent sudden changes to the format of the data presented). How would one go about getting access to the feed of the odds and the payout ratios (?) from one or more casinos without getting rampaged by hoards of angry lawyers? Contacting the casinos has, unsurprisingly, proven fruitless given the difficulty explaining what I'm looking for to a non-technical support representative ("So you want to know how to gamble online?"). NB: I've never bet on sports, so apologies if my lingo is off. I appreciate any help and guidance!

Is there a way to view all the pictures posted on someone's photo blog (not mine) as a slideshow? The blog I'm thinking of posts pictures regularly and I'd like to be able to paste the RSS feed into a program that will draw out the pictures and allow me to view them as a slideshow. The trick would be to have the all the pictures from every post ever posted be drawn into the slideshow (it might be nice to be able to randomize it as well, rather than have the pictures show in typical reverse chronological order). I'm really surprised this technology doesn't seem to exist yet. Thanks, folks. ty

I read a lot of serial genre fiction, specifically science fiction and fantasy. I'm currently reading a lot of series and some of them don't get new books very often. I sometimes completely miss new books. Is there some resource, preferably Google Reader compatible, that will allow me to just maintain a list of authors, and have it tell me when a new book is out? Amazon doesn't seem to have specific author/series searches. There was this question, but it's old, Amazon specific, for subjects not authors, and the answer no longer works. Assuming there's no such resource, would you use such a service?
I need to be notified on my blackberry of RSS events on a secure authenticated RSS feed. These notifications can be sms texts or preferably plain text emails.
