Help me populate a spreadsheet by scraping an RSS feed.

I would like to scrape information from an RSS feed into an Excel-readable text file for a completely legal non-copyright violating use. In a better world, I'd have access to the database that generates the feed, but since this ain't a perfect world it appears that scraping is my best bet. Are there tools that will help me automate this, or programming tutorials that will help me figure it out myself (it's been 15 years since I last write any code beyond simple SQL queries)? Snazzy versions of the RSS icon in the wild

I was looking at the webpage for a sci-fi webcomic called Drive, and I noticed that the web designer had included a modified version of the RSS icon that meshed very nicely with the feel of the webpage. I was wondering if anyone else had noticed any other websites that had similarly jazzed up (or down, I guess) the RSS icon to better fit their page. To be clear, I'm not just looking for fancy versions of the icon (Google image search turns up hundreds of those), but instances of altered icons being used well in actual webpages. [more inside]

How exactly do web feeds work?

How do web feeds and news aggregators work? When a new blog post goes up does the aggregator automatically pick that up when it checks for updates to the feed or does each site's feed decide how often they update their feeds independent of how often the blog is updated? What is a good aggregator that lets me set how often to check feeds or even lets me check feeds manually?

Looking for SMS->web service

I'm looking for an online system that allows us to set up a number that people can sms text to from their cell/mobile phones. It needs to work in the USA, and ideally also support RSS feeds of the messages as they come in - or some similar feed - so we can extract the received texts. Failing the live feed, we could make do with an Inbox system and periodically scrape or manually extract the messages out. Also being able to reply to the incoming messages is a bonus but not essential.
