My right side is developing RSI and pinched nerve symptoms more and more, so in addition to ordering a better keyboard and mouse I also am trying to switch to using my left hand for mousing, to rest my right (dominant) side. However, trying this now with my normal mouse, I want to punch in the computer after a little while. How long did it take for you switch mousing hands, if you've done it, and was it worth it? Is there something like WorkRave but for Android? I cannot download anything on my computer at work. I used to use WorkRave at another job and really liked how it gave you the exercises to do. I don't want simply a reminder to stretch. I've seen apps that have stretches, but they are more like a resource app, not like WorkRave where it gives you random exercises each time. [more inside]
Typing is killing me and I have to write a bunch of papers over the next couple of weeks. I have a 2012 MBP (not yet on Mavericks) and could spend ~ $100-150 on some kind of voice-to-text software. Can you recommend a Seattle physical medicine doctor who can help me with my bad hands and my L&I claim? [more inside]
For the last year I have had mild RSI, though it began pretty bad and I quickly changed things up so it would be better. That said, it hasn't gone away and I want to talk to a broader base of experts to try and nip this in the bud before it becomes more than just a nuisance. Ideally, I'd like to find a doctor that specializes in RSI, physical therapists (though I'm sure said doctor could refer me), and then whatever else people know...massage therapists, whatever else could help. But I'm looking for people who really know RSI and have worked with people with RSI before. I'm tired of doctors just saying "this is what happens when you use a computer." I'm in San Francisco, but can travel into the bay area if I have to.

Over the past four or five months I've had pain and stiffness in my thumbs. It started in my right thumb (I'm right handed) and then I noticed it in my left as well. It now seems to be worse in my left - my left thumb hurts a bit more than my right and I can't bend it quite as far.

Icing, massage, less frequent use of the device (as if!) So....I know I could stick my hand in a bucket of ice. But has anyone actually devised any sort of glove into which one can put ice and ice down that thumb joint in a less liquid/messy way? Years ago, I used to ice down a knee with a bag of frozen peas. Would love to find or make a smaller, simpler alternative similiar to the "knee peas," for the left thumb joint.
