I'm looking for a PDF reader app for my iPad. Challenge level: RPG books. I'm experimenting with using my iPad to read the rules books for D&D, Pathfinder, etc. during the game. Key features that I need: 1) Jump to an arbitrary page number; 2) Find word/phrase within the document; 3) Renders quickly even with large files with lots of graphics; 4) Ability to add bookmarks within the PDF file would be a huge plus; 5) Ability to sort files within the app with folders would be a minor plus. Recommendations?

I used to enjoy playing fantasy MUDs, particularly this one, which involves a mostly solo adventurer, some gothic/supernatural elements, magic, dwarfs, ogres, and a dragon. I also like fantasy RPGs like Oblivion and Skyrim. However, I haven't read much fantasy fiction. Outside of Tolkien, what are some fantasy books I might enjoy on similar fantasy RPG themes?

What good video games are reminiscent of Rogue-likes (viz. Incursion), Risk-likes (viz. Lux, Advance Wars), and Starflight, especially in the fact that they can be stopped and started at any time? Bonus points if said video games are either for OS X or can be easily emulated in OS X.

A few friends and I would like to begin playing tabletop role-playing games. We've only barely played a pen-and-paper game before, a long time ago, but we play a lot of RPGs on the computer. I've played every version of D&D and am wondering, is there an RPG that doesn't take 3 hrs to make a character, where combat can be resolved in less than an hour and doesn't require a dozen books? I'm flexible on the genre, but fantasy or scifi is what I'm most interested in, something that can be used over the longterm, not just for a few games (RISUS and it's pals appeal but doesn't seem durable enough), with enough flexibility for me to mash things together but without me having to design my own homebrew from 2 or 3 systems. I've done that. Lots more inside... [more inside]
Eberron veterans! Help a DM (new to Eberron, not to DMing) out. I'm looking for intriguing plot hooks that specifically exploit two of the setting's distinctive characteristics: the treatment of magic as everyday technology, and the huge rich/poor gap (i.e., the extent to which the dragonmarked houses dominate). Share your stories, unused campaign hooks, or idle musings. Our preferred focus is role-playing, not roll-playing. [more inside]
