Cultural Appropriation in the Mechanics of Magic

I am a white cis-het male working on a writing project that includes both a fantasy novel and a tabletop RPG system and setting, based in an alternate history Earth where magic is a part of normal life. I believe in the importance of diversity in representation, so I would like to depict an America in which European/American culture is less hegemonic than in reality. One of the ways in which I want to do that is having non-European systems of magic be influential on the art and science of magic in this world. In particular, I am considering whether there is a way to incorporate chakras into both the fiction and the game's system without it being cultural appropriation. More details after the break. Reliving my single days through a weekend of binge gaming

My husband and kid are taking off for a weekend and for the first time in over 6 years I have a weekend to myself. The plan is to binge play a game while they are away in a hedonistic reliving my old WoW days. I am looking for a game that I can play either on my PS3 or WiiU that is an RPG. Basically, my googling has resulted in too many options and I am having a lot of trouble narrowing it down. Specifics of what I am looking for within. [more inside]

Looking for good quality non-Euro-centric RPG campaign settings

I recently received the Southlands campaign setting from a Kickstarter that I'd previously funded and forgotten about (seriously, Kickstarter is like sending your future self a present). Flipping through it brought back memories of reading Conan comics as a kid and reveling in how different it was from what I was used to, setting-wise. Most of the popular fantasy settings in fiction are all very Euro-centric. Help me find some good table top RPG settings that step outside this mold. More within. [more inside]

Accessible fantasy fiction for fans of MUDs & RPGs?

I used to enjoy playing fantasy MUDs, particularly this one, which involves a mostly solo adventurer, some gothic/supernatural elements, magic, dwarfs, ogres, and a dragon. I also like fantasy RPGs like Oblivion and Skyrim. However, I haven't read much fantasy fiction. Outside of Tolkien, what are some fantasy books I might enjoy on similar fantasy RPG themes?
