I'm looking for information on the structure of life for members of the British Royal Family, particularly the lives of heirs to the throne: protocols, responsibilities, duties, etc. Do they have support staffs from childhood? Are they surrounded 24/7 by huge security details? Are there media consultants and imaging experts? Do they do their own grocery shopping? Do they have "days off" and what would that even mean in this context?

So next week, my girlfriend and I are going on a cruise for our third year anniversary booked through Royal Caribbean that leaves from Florida and stops at Labidee, Haiti; Falmouth, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman; and Cozumel, Mexico. This is my first cruise, and my girlfriend’s eighth cruise. We have already booked awesome excursions in Labadee (parasailing!), George Town (turtle farm and stingray city!), and Cozumel (snorkeling boat tour!), but we are unsure what to do in Falmouth since it’s a relatively new port. Blogger Steerforth of The Age of Uncertainty found an
old picture which intrigued him, especially the
figure in the center. He wonders in his blogpost if it might be Queen Victoria. Some commenters dissent. I'm curious about it myself. Can anyone shed further light on the image?

I'm reading
Princesses, by Flora Fraser (which, OT, is a bit too much like school to be really enjoyable) and am interested in a term I don't understand.

What is the protocol for establishing who's next in line to the British throne? I understand that being an actual royal may get you into the Top 20 or so, but how do I find out if I'm 13,000,000th or 40,000,000th, or maybe not even permitted to rule this noble land for one reason or another in the case that there were some kind of Establishment-culling freaky accident?
