I want my neighbor to have Internet, just not all to herself.

I've got a Netgear WNR2000v2 wireless router, and am sharing my DSL connection with a neighbor. My apartment uses the main network and my neighbor is on a guest network. What's been happening lately is that the Internet gets really slow, and what I'd like to do is to cap the guest network at, say, 75kBps. I don't know if she's running torrents or what, but I would like to have the fast Internet that I'm paying for. [more inside]

Daisy-chaining a wireless router

I have a Linksys WCG200 cable modem/wireless router combo device. It sucks at wireless (and extensive Googling has indicated that's unfixable), but it's OK at everything else. Can I pick up a $30 wireless router, plug that into the device I have now, and use that without any loss of quality? Would I need any other devices? Would it just be easier to get a new stand-alone cable modem as well?

Why does my wi-fi die-fi?

I'm stumped by what on the face of it should be a pretty simple problem with a ADSL router (Thomson ST585 v6.) The connection is flawless when I plug into the router with an ethernet cable, but a wifi connection will drop out if I move further than a metre away from the router. This is true regardless of where I place the router in the house. I'm thinking a physical fault in the device. Anyone have a second guess?

Can my ISP force me to buy their branded router?

I currently use AT&T as our broadband ISP at home. Our five-year-old modem/router just died, and since it's so old, AT&T tells me that it's no longer under warranty, and I have to buy a new one myself. Then they directed me to an AT&T Wireless retail store to go buy the equipment. But can they force me to buy one of their routers? What if I can find a comparable one cheaper somewhere else? Can they refuse me customer service or deny me installation help (which I will need - I'm hopelessly n00bulous in this department) if I don't by an "official" AT&T router? [more inside]
