Does anyone know how to configure the firewall settings on a new-model Motorola Netopia 2247-N8 modem/router?
I am having severe issues with streaming audio/video (endless buffering, permanent stopping), and my ISP's only suggestion is to adjust the firewall on my device. However, my GUI seems to be missing the buttons/links/menus necessary to even access the firewall settings.

Is there anything I can do to improve wi-fi connectivity in a small area (three rooms) when dealing with a large number of other signals? I'm in a high-rise apartment building in a city; after letting inSSIDer run for a while, it shows that I'm competing with 125 other access points. My signal is okay in the first room, fair in the second room, and unusable in the third room. I'm using DD-WRT -- are there any settings I can tweak that might help?

Like many people, I've got wireless router issues (Netgear MR814v2 -- yeah, it's getting old). I'm troubleshooting them as I can and haven't found anything that should be interfering, and all my firmware is up to date. Putting that to one side, I'm pretty tired of running down and up the stairs to unplug the router and plug it back in again (six to 10 times a day). My diagnostics show I've got connectivity between the computer and the router even when I can't connect to the Internet. Is there some way to reboot the router from my computer?

I have an Actiontec GT701WG that can supposedly act as a DHCP server, but nothing gets an IP address from it. Manually assigning IP addresses works fine, but that's a pain with several devices. I also have a Linksys WRT54G that I thought I could use as my DHCP server instead, but I can't get it to connect to the Actiontec with the static IP settings. How can I make this work without buying new hardware?

How can I get the delay/latency out of my cell-via-network-extender calls or Skype calls or both? Verizon says it's Comcast and Comcast says everything's fine. Could it be my router? Is this just par for the course? I don't want to go back to landline but have to have a good phone line for my home business.

Why is my wireless router WZR-HP-G300NH not mounting my USB External HD?
I'm trying to access my Western Digital My Passport SE external hard drive through the wifi connection on the router. I have it plugged into the USB port on the router and it is powering on, but not mounting.
What have I done wrong?
How can I get this to work?
Does anyone know how to go about accessing the hard drive files once it is mounting properly?
I'll be using my MacBook to access the files and would like to stream my movies wirelessly from the external HD.

I've got a
Netgear WNR2000v2 wireless router, and am sharing my DSL connection with a neighbor. My apartment uses the main network and my neighbor is on a guest network.
What's been happening lately is that the Internet gets really slow, and what I'd like to do is to cap the guest network at, say, 75kBps. I don't know if she's running torrents or what, but I would like to have the fast Internet that I'm paying for.

I have a Linksys WCG200 cable modem/wireless router combo device. It sucks at wireless (and extensive Googling has indicated that's unfixable), but it's OK at everything else. Can I pick up a $30 wireless router, plug that into the device I have now, and use that without any loss of quality? Would I need any other devices? Would it just be easier to get a new stand-alone cable modem as well?

I'm stumped by what on the face of it should be a pretty simple problem with a ADSL router (Thomson ST585 v6.) The connection is flawless when I plug into the router with an ethernet cable, but a wifi connection will drop out if I move further than a metre away from the router. This is true regardless of where I place the router in the house. I'm thinking a physical fault in the device. Anyone have a second guess?
