How do I grow rosa rugosa indoors?

Oh hive mind: wield your mighty collective horticulture-fu to help me bring the seashore to my apartment! Help me figure out how to grow Rosa Rugosa inside and make my sweetheart happy! The beach rose is my SO's (mefi's own Cygnet) favorite flower in the world, largely because of the smell. However, I can't find any resources for learning how to grow it inside. I know it's a little crazy, and that it isn't the sort of plant that one usually grows inside. But is it totally impossible? What will it take?

I have read that it requires well-drained sandy soil, that it doesn't tolerate fertilizer, and that it needs partial to full sun. I've found companies that will sell me either seeds or bare-root plants. I'm pretty good with plants, but I'm no expert, so I'm not very confident in my ability to improvise this.

My Cambridge, MA apartment gets some sun, but not a lot. We have windows with southeastern and southwestern exposure, including one bay window.

I would also appreciate any other general gardening tips regarding Japanese roses. Thanks!

Does Charlie Rose own a television studio?

"From our studio in New York, this is Charlie Rose" ---- who does the "our studio" refer to? Wikipedia and the Official Charlie Rose website don't appear to shed any light. Does Charlie and his co-executive producer own the studio? WNET? Bueller? Bonus question: why is it announced that way, other than to stick in the mind of the listener?

Mutant rose bush?

What's up with my rose bush? One of our "Knockout Rose" bushes has sprouted a large and straight runner that has blossomed in less than two months. The leaves and stem are much larger than the older part of the plant, and it just looks a bit weird. What happened here? Was the rest of the plant a graft and this is the original stem re-establishing itself? It does look rather unsymmetrical now. Would I be hurting the plant if I nipped it? (Please excuse the poor light balance in this picture)

What's she saying?

Please watch about ten seconds of this youtube video to help me understand what is being said. The video is 'cued up' to the right place, so you needn't watch the whole thing. It's a scene from the film 'Mrs Miniver', featuring an elderly woman, her granddaughter and the granddaughter's boyfriend. The grandmother is upset because a rose named after the boyfriend's mother has been entered in a local flower-show. She insults the boyfriend by suggesting that his mother is too undistinguished to have a rose named after her, and she gives examples of the sort of names roses 'should' have. The first name is 'Marshal Niel' and the last is 'Duchess of Argyll', but I cannot understand what she says between these two names. I assume it's the name of a famous rose cultivar, but I have listened and listened and it's unintelligible to me. I googled it, but the only result was an error-filled transcript of the film that I don't trust to be accurate. Please listen and tell me what you think. Any wild stab in the dark is welcome!

Looking to bake a rose or lavender flavored chocolate cake.

Looking for recipes and/or tips for baking with rose or lavender. In particular, I'm interested in making a chocolate cake with rose flavoring. Or lavender as a backup. I know there's rosemilk available out there somewhere, and that there are ways of incorporating rose or lavender flavors in baking, but I haven't found any recipes to that effect. I would love suggestions for how to tweak classic recipes to add either of these flavors, or completely new recipes that incorporate them. Also looking for online places to buy the harder-to-find ingredients.

Please help me find a book or full picture of a certain Charles Rennie Mackintosh design. This is the top half of a Charles Rennie Mackintosh design that appears to be called "The Lady and the Rose" or "Lady with Rose". It also appears, in needlepoint form, here.

I'm looking for a book that this picture might be in, or a nice, clear, larger online picture.

In search of some roses

I'm interested in starting a few rose plants and I have no idea where I can find out about certain strains that appear to be ghosts on the internet. I've found that there is some people who have genetically engineered a blue rose and I'm interested in acquiring a blue rose plant engineered or not and I don't want to just dye white roses blue. Any information about roses that look like the ones from the film "V for Vendetta" is also appreciated. Getting started on a rose garden and I'm looking for tips n such. I have a special interest in the rose that was featured in the movie "V for vendetta" in the movie they called it the Crimson Carson. My research says the only flower that exists that has a similar name is the Violet Carson also an actor which i have no interest in. If anyone knows about blue roses and where I could get seeds or clones of these plants it would be greatly appreciated.

There has been mention in my travels across the internet to find this blue rose about a strain called "rose of the Nile".

Obscure Dutch Painter Filter

This is going to be really difficult, I think, but it's worth a shot. A long time ago I saw (on dutch tv) a documentary about a young dutch painter/artist of the seventies. He was in his twenties back then, I believe, and he died (of cancer?) soon after (that is, probably also in the seventies). Can anyone tell me what his name is? Somehow whenever I think back of this documentary a rose pops into my mind, but I don't know why. Perhaps it was a painting of his.
