Blepharitis Pro Tips

I have blepharitis, a condition that makes my eyelids very prone to chalazions (warning: gross). As far as I can tell, this isn't something that can be cured per se, but there are things that can be done to lessen the symptoms. What works for you, fellow blepharitis sufferers? [more inside]

Layers, yes/no?

Off Label Use: YNMD, but... should I use my non-proscribed rosacea medication on the rest of my non-afflicted face as a facial moisturizer, since it seems to work for that too, and am I seriously doing a no-no with the medicine by slapping cosmetics onto it? [more inside]

How to apply green makeup on a temporarily red face?

I'm a 20-something year old female that currently does not wear makeup. I know as much about applying makeup as this guy. I wouldn't waste the money and time applying and buying makeup if I didn't have to. However, I have mild Rosacea that comes and goes, which has left me suicidally depressed these last five years when it was more frequent (For reasons unknown the frequency of the flushing has reduced significantly since 2011 and I no longer struggle with a burning lobster red face on a daily basis.), and I would like to not have to endure the painful joke or comment about it the unpredictably rare times my face flushes and feels hot to the touch in public. It's for this reason I'd like to learn a few makeup tips for someone with mild Rosacea, sensitive skin, and an otherwise pale olive complexion. If it helps, the picture in my profile is misleading; my skin tone is closer to this shade on a good day. How do I apply the appropriate makeup (green makeup, apparently) when I'm not always red but know I will be at some point during the day? Wouldn't green makeup make me look, uh, green when I'm not flushing?

Can You Please Help Me Solve a Mean and Nasty Mystery Skin Condition?

Skinfilter: Help! Help! Help! About 10 years ago, I started suffering from extreme dryness and peeling on my face, which got so bad that my skin would feel like it was burning. I'm female, and I was in my early 30s at the time. When I went to the dermatologist, he diagnosed sebborheic dermatitis based on my (long-standing) hypothyroid condition and peeling in my eyebrows. He treated it with Elidil, and told me to go off it when the sebborheic dermatitis remitted. But it never did. Over time, I’ve come to think the diagnosis was wrong, but I’ve yet to hear a better theory. Maybe you have one? [more inside]

What is up with my skin?

I thought I had mild "papulopustular rosacea." Putting Polysporin on the red bumps helped a lot. Then I took acyclovir for a cold sore and the bumps cleared up completely! None of the online resources on rosacea have indicated acyclovir as a treatment. So what did I have? [more inside]

rosacea + swimming

I have rosacea which is kept in check with daily applications of MetroGel (metronidazole). I also like swimming as exercise. The problem is that swimming in a chlorinated pool leaves my nose area bright red, almost like a chemical burn. It takes at least 2 weeks of extra care on my part to reduce this redness. What are some things I can do to protect my face when swimming? Or will I have to give up swimming altogether? (Note that other types of exertion, such as jogging or cycling, do not result in this type of redness)
