Help me with SSI information

A relative of mine is on SSI (and has been for a decade). He has always lived with family members until recently. He just moved to a different state (WA) and rented a room in a house occupied by a couple. The rental house owners put him on the lease. Of the couple, only the female is on the lease. When he went to the SSA office to change address, the worker wants the couples income and expense information before they will approve his SSI transfer. Is this normal? [more inside]

It's yo' cat / It's yo' problem!

CatLivingFilter: One of my roommate's two cats has become very attached to me, probably because my roommate (by his own admission) inherited the cat from an ex relationship and never really liked it that much. That's cool--I like cats, and cats like me. What I don't like is that the cat has become so attached that it will yell inconsolably outside my door, scratch at my door, and sometimes even bash into my door in despair of not being in my room. This has become a major sleep disrupting problem for me. What can I reasonably expect my roommate to do to respond to this situation? [more inside]

How would you handle this? I need to get my roommate to: 1) accept there are fleas in the house and that his dog has a really bad case of them; 2) accept that if there are fleas, that it's a problem that we need to try to fix; 3) treat his own room. [more inside]

How to exit gracefully from an unworkable & unaffordable living situation?

Back in May I cosigned a lease for an apartment with a friend of a friend running from July to July. Thanks to changing circumstances since then, I can't afford it and I have no choice but to get out of the whole arrangement by September, before university starts back up again. The province I'm in has extremely pro-tenant rental laws, so transferring the lease will not be a problem. What concerns me is dropping this bomb on the cosigner, who is 4000 km away until, well, just when I'd have to leave. Since we were introduced in April for the purposes of being roommates, he's also shown himself to be far more naive than he appears when it comes to stuff like this. But I've also committed a huge error in judgement by signing for this place, and I feel guilty for helping to convince him. I've accepted I'll have to burn more than one bridge. But I'm way too overwhelmed by the hundreds of responsibilities have piled up on my shoulders, and need to tell him very soon. How do I make this as quick, painless and guilt-free as is possible? More on the "changing circumstances" inside: read just the bold bits if you're short on time. [more inside]

Roommate's approach to fixing his dog's bad behaviour is through telling him "don't do that", and my cat is in constant fear.

Let's hang out ... but only at my place

Looking for advice about how to deal with spending a disproportionate amount of time at one person's house when in a relationship ... while my situation may be unique, I'm hoping others have done the dating-while-living-with-folks thing, or the dating-with-a-horrible-roommate thing, or dating-someone-who-doesn't-drive thing.
