Move into a house with many (now) vacant rooms without knowing roommates

I looked at this really nice, huge, new house for rent, but the landlord is renting out each room individually, and now they are all vacant because the house's new, so I don't know who's gonna be my house mates!!! Even men or women - I don't know!! [more inside]

Should we rent a room to our friend?

My husband and I just bought a house. We have more space than we currently need, and a friend is starting grad school in the area. We are considering renting a room to her. Have you done something like this? How did it work out for you? What made it work? What problems did you encounter? [more inside]

My roommate is driving me nuts and I'm wondering what my options are

Basically I paid $400 (really cheap rent) for a small room sublet in Bensonhurst and one of my friends with benefits (who I knew for about a month), heard about my situation incidentally and kept on asking me to split rent with him in the Bronx. It's not a particularly bad area and it was financially feasible (he lives alone and his dad pays half his rent just as a nice gesture, so we'd split the remaining amount - $250 a month on me and the rest on him - about the same). So primarily for financial reasons, as I could save money on rent, I started moving my things and called my landlord to tell him I'm leaving this month within a couple weeks. [more inside]

I screwed up; what do I do now?

Oh boy... I've screwed up. I invited a woman to live with me. I am female, reasonably well-employed, decent income, have my own place, etc., and the invite had nothing to do with sex or a relationship of any kind. Things have already turned sour and I need some advice, a sane voice or two... [more inside]

Don't sh*t where you eat?

RoommateConflictFilter: I'm a guy in my mid-20s living in a bachelor pad with two other similarly-aged guys. The two roommates have had a huge falling out (over a girl, naturally) on month two of a twelve-month lease, and after days of constantly talking about it, it seems like the only solution is for one of them to move out. The only thing that we've agreed on is that I'm not going anywhere. So now what? We're all on the lease, and I want to make sure that nobody gets burnt any worse than has already happened. Advise a SF renter?

Advise a San Francisco renter? I've about 6 weeks left on my current lease, and just had a new roommate move in. Rather than tack him on to the remaining time, my landlord would like to scrap the previous lease and have us sign on for a year. I've a feeling my roommate would prefer that as well. I, however, don't wish to be committed that long. [more inside]
