My boyfriend and I moved into an apartment with a classmate of his almost 2 years ago. We found a place in Park Slope, Brooklyn, which is notoriously expensive but which we were able to all afford by splitting the rent three ways. Our room was really big, with room for both our desks and a bed. His room is about half the size but he also got the whole hall closet. Now that my boyfriend and I have broken up and he's moved out, we have a little problem. [more inside]

How to find a roommate: I need to find a place to live. I've always lived with friends, but that's not an option right now. I'm looking for a room on craigslist and bostonapartments.com but pickings are slim. In six months time, I'm going to move to London (from Wakefield, West Yorkshire). A few of friends of mine (housemate, old friend, college friend) plan to get a house/flat together. I graduated this Summer (BA (Hons) English & Creative Writing), and am working in a bar and doing freelance web design in the meantime. I want to know what I should be doing now to get ready; when and where should I start looking for a Real Job, and when and where should I look for places to live? Does anybody have any other advice for migrating to the big smoke?
