I just want to play UNIRACERS!

Argh. I've installed the drivers, I've searched high and low online, nothing is helping, so I'm coming to ya'll: how can I get my Xbox 360 wireless controller (connected to my PC via the charge and play kit via a USB port) to work on my computer? Specifically, I want to play ROMs with it. ZSNES and project 64 are the two emulators I'm trying to puzzle out right now. I've installed the 360 drivers (I'm running a 64 bit copy of Windows Vista Home Premium), it shows up in my Device Manager under 'Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class' as 'Xbox 360 Wireless Controller via Play & Charge Kit' and says it's there and fine.
HOWEVER... under Control Panel - Game Controllers, there's nothing. I open it up, there's no controllers on the list. I click advanced, I go to choose my preferred device, again - nothing. Not on the list. When I plug the controller in, the computer makes a noise and the light on the charge part of the controller shows it's plugged in, but the controller doesn't turn on (not sure if it's supposed to actually) and it certainly doesn't seem to be working with my ROMs.

Help Mefi, help! Pretty please?

TI-99/4A ROMs?

How can I play Munch Man on my Macbook? So I only just discovered the existence of TI-99/4A emulators, and holy crap is that awesome. That was my first computer ever, and I played Munch Man for hours on end with my brother.

I'd like to continue clinging desperately to my childhood, and playing Munch Man again sounds like a perfect way to do that, but I can't find any ROMs for it. Are there good Home of the Underdogs-ish sites for finding old TI-99/4A ROMs, or failing that, maybe an online port of the game?

Linux + emulators + roms = homebrew console

How do I create a linux-based game station that's loaded with emulators and roms that I can hook up to my tv? I basically want to create my own console that's packed with emulators and roms and has a cool interface which i can navigate using just a gamepad. Also, it would be cool if I could just press the power button and it loaded directly into the interface. Are there any linux distros made for this sort of thing? Any linux-gurus out there that can lead me in the right direction?

Help me build a list of must have games for old and new consoles. So we are talking console games for systems from the old to the new. What are your all-time favorite games? Do you still remember the cheat codes? What is your all-time favorite console?

Ultimately, I will be using this list to create a big folder of kick-ass roms and emulators. Hopefully others will find this useful as well. As a bonus, I am sure a lot of great memories will come back when this thread gets going.

I can see how this thread could turn into chatfilter if we are not careful, so please make sure that we contribute good information in each post.

Playing the Mame Game

OK, I've got MAME installed, and a (pretty much) complete (15Gb) set of ROMs. I've played my old favorites... Galaxian, Galaga, Gauntlet, Sonic, Mario... but now I'm daunted by the thousands of games I have to choose from.

So what should I play next?

(assume if I don't have the ROM I can get it)

Looking for an old Atari game

I'm trying to remember the name of an old Atari game. It's been about 20 years since I played it so my description may be a bit hazy. Basically all I can remember of it was that it turned the tables on the standard `UFO invasion' type game. You were playing a UFO, which was at the top of the screen, and you attacked bases on the ground.

I think the ground scrolled past as you travelled along.

Wow, that's not a lot of clues.

I downloaded a ROM collection recently and I don't think it was amongst the collection.

Does the man disaprove of ROM sites?

I was wondering about the exact legality of distributing video game ROMS on the internet? Is it legal? Does the "delete it in 24 hours" statement really shield a site from legal action?

All ROMS sites seem really shady with a lot of layers of pages to go through to get to their content. Some insist it is perfectly fine, while others disagree

I searched and only found these two threads. Thanks!
