I'm housesitting and the loo roll (toilet paper) seems to have gone a tad mouldy. I obviously took the moudly bits off and chucked them in the bin but I am now left wondering whether the mould might have left spores in the rest of the loo rool, invisible to the naked eye. [more inside]

This year I have been accidentally discovering the hard rock in the 70s that for some reason escaped me. The latest discovery is Jetliner by Steve Miller, thanks to Noah Baumbach. Despite writing about music, I am not exactly sure what I am looking for... [more inside]
I just heard a loud boom, and felt a shockwave rattle my trailer here in Santa Cruz, CA. My neighbors felt it too and were very curious. Could it have been an earthquake? [more inside]
Where can I find a digital copy of Bobby Loveless' 'Night Owl'? It's an old rock and roll tune (late fifties - early sixties) which was hugely popular in Louisiana (and throughout the Delta region). I have been looking for it on behalf of my father-in-law, who is a huge fan of this era's music? It's pretty obscure, I acknowledge.

I've always thought of early rock and country as being populated by men who might have done very bad things if they hadn't done music, and I want to hear some songs that prove it. Dale Hawins' Susie Q has that vibe. Charlie Feathers' That Certain Female seems like a song Mr. Blonde would bop to. I'd like to hear some other songs that feel just as... raw? Intimidating? I'm not quite sure. I think it's a "know it when I hear it" situation, and I'm hoping someone else has heard it and knows it.

Any thoughts on why we (humans) roll our eyes back while thinking. We also sometimes crunch our brows. I notice people, including myself, do this when no one is looking at them as well as a signifier during conversation. But it is the action acted out alone that interests me? Could this action actually improve the brains ability to think? What, if any, evolutionary advantage could this offer?
