What gear do I need to achieve this specific guitar tone from Bettie Serveert's "Kid's Allright"? I'm looking to replicate the sound the guitar makes from about 2:29 to 2:42. I really like that heavy, machine-like grinding distortion. I assume there's some kind of effects unit that's key to getting this sound. Any suggestions as to what that might be?
I'm looking for more music that sounds like this Lou Reed bootleg with Don Cherry on trumpet. [more inside]
Asking for Gnik Nus. Flying across the country to go rock climbing, a sport which relies on lots of heavy (and need I say pricey) gear. Will also be taking a bus from the airport to the destination. So, in an attempt to avoid lugging all the equipment, thinking about using USPS flat rate shipping boxes to have the stuff go to the house that's been rented specifically for this trip. [more inside]
I just moved to Boston and don't know much of anything about it's history as a music town. I mean I'm generally aware of classic rock bands being from Boston, and then Mission of Burma, but what else? What books, documentaries, websites, magazine archives, etc should I read to find out more about the Boston (and surrounding area) scene? [more inside]

I'm trying to remember the name of a rock song that was released perhaps as long as eight years ago. In the video are several high school males who lose their tempers; I don't think that the song is by Andrew WK, but as I recall it'd be classified in the same genre. Please help.
Please help me find songs that sound like Lucifer Sam (Pink Floyd) and We Love You (Rolling Stones).
We've gone to Burning Man for a few years. This year a friend is joining us who is a burgin. We know there are things that have become automatic to us that we won't remember to pass on - and probably things we've never figured out that are great ides. What's your best tip, or tips, for Burning Man?

I'm a huge fan of science fiction book cover art (especially the 50s through the 80s) and I like to use ideas from them to make posters for my band. If you need examples: this should explain what I'm looking for. I'm wondering if there are existing resources for science fiction cover art or general science fiction art that mirrors this sort of style and substance? I especially need resources that are fair use, free to modify etc. etc. We use these posters to advertise our shows at places which usually have a cover charge -- so I will need content that I can modify to use "commercially". Identify this song please! I'm making a mixtape of songs with distinctive vocal flourishes and there's a snippet going through my head that I just can't place. This song's building to a crescendo and the singer yells "Whoo!" followed by three piano chords that sound almost like percussion (bum! bum! bum!) before continuing on. [more inside]

I'm a drummer in an indie-rock band with a 5-piece kit who is looking to expand my setup to include a drum sampling pad. I want something that has unique percussion sounds (not just cheesy electronic beats), built-in effects, plenty of storage space to upload my own samples, and the ability to record and loop live drumbeats. Any advice? [more inside]

Calling all indie music geeks... I need help identifying a band. iPhone update nuked all the downloaded music in my Rhapsody app. I was listening to a band that I liked a lot. Singer had sort of baritone, with interesting lyrics. Imagine a post-punk, slightly less-lackadaisical Leonard Cohen. Pretty sure record is relatively recent and band name has the word 'Future' in it. Any ideas?

A very general question looking for your tastes. I like basic rock with awesome guitar licks/riffs where I can understand what the singer is singing (or at least has something melodic). I am open to any suggestions for bands post 2000, if not recent. I don't know what subcategories there are but am game for your input.
