Fifteen years later, Calexico's The Black Light has finally clicked with me in a big way. I absolutely love the guitar sound in Gypsy's Curse. Does this sound have a name, and where can I find more of it? [more inside]
Calling all indie music geeks... I need help identifying a band. iPhone update nuked all the downloaded music in my Rhapsody app. I was listening to a band that I liked a lot. Singer had sort of baritone, with interesting lyrics. Imagine a post-punk, slightly less-lackadaisical Leonard Cohen. Pretty sure record is relatively recent and band name has the word 'Future' in it. Any ideas?
Name that song! Instrumental. Very recent. Overheard on the radio and in stores/restaurants where they typically play indie/alt rock. Bouncy. Very strong bassline. Kinda reminds me of Air. [more inside]
A very general question looking for your tastes. I like basic rock with awesome guitar licks/riffs where I can understand what the singer is singing (or at least has something melodic). I am open to any suggestions for bands post 2000, if not recent. I don't know what subcategories there are but am game for your input.

I need some Yule music. With kind of an indie rock feel if possible. Stuff that is a cross between Belle and Sebastian and the sountrack for the Wicker Man with a winter yule theme. This is anon because its for a surprise evening dinner/birthday party. Please suggest any songs/whole albums. Thank you!
Looking for recommendations of modern indie rock artists that aren't afraid to shred & solo - on the electric guitar, not a Casiotone. [more inside]

So I just watched the fourth episode of Scrubs season 8 with the song Close Your Eyes by Young Love. What are some other sissy-rock songs that are worth crying over (more Further by Longview than, I dunno, Nick Drake or something)?

I need a good name! My east coast tour is ending. That means it's time to start booking the west coast tour. Please suggest cities and venues for a touring indie rock band to hit in NV, CA, OR, WA, and AZ. [more inside]
DissectingArtFilter: I'd like to start to understand how certain (in my eyes, fantastic) lyrics are devised. Specifically, Stephen Malkmus's lyrics, as a part of Pavement. For instance, Gold Soundz. I can pick out some slant rhymes, and certain other techniques but can't figure out how they work in the context of the entire piece. I know that melody plays a huge role in making the song what it is, but sort of focusing on the lyrics part - any words of wisdom. (and yes, I'm possibly writing lyrics for my band at some point)

About five years ago I stumbled across a website that contained a terrific "map" of the various Olympia-based post-grunge indie rock bands (such as Sleater-Kinney,Cadallaca, The Softies, Quasi, Sarah Dougher), and the interrelations between them (for instance Sarah Dougher has been a vocalist for both Cadallaca and the Crabs; Corin Tucker is a member of Sleater-Kinney and was also in Cadallaca with Sarah Dougher"). But now, for the life of me, I can't find that site, despite using all of my google-hacking skills. Does anyone else know where that page, or a page like it is?
I'd like to put together a collection of new (i.e., unfamiliar) music for a friend who gravitates toward the more wistful moments of Belle and Sebastian, James, et al - Brit indie pop that often falls under the dubious label "twee." Any recommendations?
