Roadtrippin' in basically winter. Where to?

Imagine you're leaving New York City in a rental car. You have one week—November 30th through December 7th. You're first spending a few days with your Grandmother near Washington DC. Where would you go after that? [more inside]

Help us plan our trans-American odyssey!

A friend and I are planning a month-long roadtrip down the West coast of the United States - starting in Oregon, and possibly going so far as to cross Texas and finish up in Louisiana somewhere - to take place sometime in the new year, and we'd appreciate some advice in re: must-sees and logistics. Suggest a road trip of around 10 hours from Orlando!

Can you suggest some amazing places for me to visit within a ~10 hour drive of Orlando, Florida? I will be leaving Orlando on September 1st and have to be back either in Orlando or in Atlanta, Georgia afternoon of 7th September for my flight back to London, England. New Orleans is one enticing idea so far, Miami slightly less so...but very keen to get some suggestions from the hive mind. Everything from historic landmarks to city culture to the big wide open considered (and I'm a big fan of freshwater swimming too). [more inside]

Must-See Scenic Drives and Attractions Driving West from Cincinnati to Seattle

What are some must-see scenic drives and attractions to be found on a one-way roadtrip West from Cincinnati, OH to Seattle, WA. Mid-40s opposite-sex couple who love photography, don't like hiking very much but appreciate a good hot spring, and are what you would call "foodies". We're thinking about the Badlands and Black Hills, but what else? Also, what stretches of road can we avoid to stave off boredom, and where should we drive instead of them? We can go a bit out of our way, but would like to be back at our jobs within a week.

RoadTripFilter: In search of wide open spaces

Another "where to go in America" question (who needs a travel agent when you've got Mefi?). This time, it's a road trip - I want to get away from the cramped little island I'm living on, and the Southwest seems like the place to go. Where should I go and what should I see? [more inside]

Help my foreign friends enjoy their American experience...

Any ideas on a route (and some great points of interest) for some Italian visitors to take from Mt. Vernon, Ohio to Fargo, ND? It'll be their first time in the U.S. and would like to see as much as possible. [more inside]

Bicycle! Bicycle!

I'm thinking about riding my bicycle from San Francisco to New York City next summer. Has anyone here done it? What should I know? What routes do you recommend? On which highways and interstates are bicycles allowed? What special things should I see? How do I build a solar-powered charger for a cell phone? I'd spend this year planning, training, and saving money, so I have some time to prepare.
