My husband and I are going on a road trip this weekend and have plenty of places and things to do during daylight hours. It's just the two of us (yay, no kids!) and we'll no doubt chat all day during the drives, hikes, sightseeing. We need something to do between checking in and going to sleep. I'd like an activity that's cheap, and involves the both of us. [more inside]

How far can you travel in a particular state (geographical, not emotional) without leaving it? I was thinking about this the other day when travelling from Asheville to Kitty Hawk, NC, and I realized that it was an amazingly long journey to take all within a relatively small (but long) Eastern state. Me and three friends are flying out to drive across America, mainly following the old Route 66. I have two main questions:
1) What's worth seeing on this route?
2) What should we be wary of?
Also, any other advice is more than appreciated.

I'm going to Yellowstone in May , traveling from Austin TX via New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming then back through Kansas and Oklhoma. I would really appreciate recomendations for any cool places to stop along the way. Cool museums, cheap flea markets, places to buy cool jewelry, cool parks, places to camp, vegetarian resteraunts etc. And also the best places to stay in Yellowstone as thAT's where we'll be spending most of our time.

Street, avenue, drive, boulevard, road, etc. What's the difference, or is there one? Purely out of curiosity, it seems arbitrary. Didn't have any luck Googling it.

Horror short story about a couple on a road trip, end up in a small town during springtime, fight with each other, have sex, then notice the townspeople are all climbing on top of one another, crushing and killing each other to make some sort of ?. Story ends when the couple joins in (WTF?) I read it when I was like 8. I thought it was a Stephen King short story, but wiki'd all of them (I think) and couldn't find it.

Would there be legal issues with possessing a time-lock safe in a vehicle? I have a 10" x 12" time lock safe for myself which I use to keep credit cards, goodies or anything else I need to dole out to myself in small amounts. I'm leaving on a trip to California and it seems this item may cause issues if I were to be pulled over for any reason. Anybody know the law concerning this? Should I just leave it at home?

While in St. Martin years ago, there were roadsigns that featured an exclmation point inside of a diamond shaped sign (?) or triangle (?). I often saw it on backroads and areas where there seemed to be no reason for concern. What does this sign mean, what is it called and where can I find images of it?
