Help me troubleshoot and enhance my roadtrip / move to Eugene, Oregon. I will soon depart Lawrence, KS for adventures that will eventually leave me in Eugene to begin graduate studies with UO. I'm going to outline the planned itinerary in the hopes that the hive mind can suggest areas to visit at our planned stops, beautiful or interesting routes to take between them, and interesting pit stops to make. Also, warnings of potential trouble spots or situations will be greatly appreciated.

How far can you travel in a particular state (geographical, not emotional) without leaving it? I was thinking about this the other day when travelling from Asheville to Kitty Hawk, NC, and I realized that it was an amazingly long journey to take all within a relatively small (but long) Eastern state. I'm going to Yellowstone in May , traveling from Austin TX via New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming then back through Kansas and Oklhoma. I would really appreciate recomendations for any cool places to stop along the way. Cool museums, cheap flea markets, places to buy cool jewelry, cool parks, places to camp, vegetarian resteraunts etc. And also the best places to stay in Yellowstone as thAT's where we'll be spending most of our time.

Any advice for my son, his girlfriend and their black lab, who are driving from Seattle to Kenai, Alaska, leaving tomorrow in a stuffed Subaru. Cautions, cheap hotels, not-to-be-missed sites, route suggestions, something they should not forget to bring (they have duct tape at least) They're 26ish and going to Kenai for jobs.

I & a friend will be arriving at LAX this Easter for my 4th visit to the US & my 3rd coast-to-coast road trip. We fly out of NYC on June 2nd.
